Ljungberg nears Seattle exit

Freddie Ljungberg is 'exploring options' amid rumours the former Arsenal midfielder could return to the Premier League.

Experienced Swedish midfielder has spent the past two years in Major League Soccer with Seattle Sounders, but his contract expires in November.

Ljungberg impressed during his debut season with Seattle, but has struggled to replicate that impact in the MLS this year.

Seattle coach Sigi Schmid has now confirmed that the 33-year-old and his agent are assessing interest from other clubs.
Great player

"At this point, he is exploring options," said Schmid. "So we'll see how things proceed in the next three, four, five days."

Schmid added: "Freddie is a great player and he brings energy onto the field. Every time he plays on the field he plays with energy.

"For us as a team, you have to judge how we play with him or without him.

"I know I have my feelings and my judgements on that thing. But at the end of the day, our backs are against the wall and I think the guys know that."

Ljungberg initially moved to the Premier League in 1998 and spent nine years with Arsenal before a disappointing campaign at West Ham.
