Girls embrace W-League soccer clinic at Jamison Park

THE Nepean District Soccer Football Association has branded its three-day W-League clinic a major success.

Last week 75 girls joined five W-League stars at Jamison Park.

Sydney FC defender Alesha Clifford, of Winmalee, was ecstatic about the turnout.

“It’s great to see all the girls out here,” she said.

“They are very enthusiastic. They love talking to us girls from the W-League and it is great for them to have a league to look up to.”

Association football manager James Rankine heaped praise on the stars, who were “very helpful” throughout the clinic.

“The W-League players were fantastic, they interacted with the players and were great role models, giving the players something to look up to,” Rankine said.

“The players are only young themselves, so they aren’t too far removed in age from the youngsters, and they really wanted to make sure that the girls had a great experience.

“The fact that they stayed behind on the last day and signed posters, balls, boots, shirts and anything else with a flat surface, all with a smile, was a testament to their dedication to promoting the game in a positive way.”

The W-League clinic was the first held in Penrith but Rankine said it would not be the last.

“We have a great relationship with the Department of Sport and Recreation and they were really pleased with the attendance and the enthusiasm of the players who came to the camp, so we are keen to hold more,” he said.
