This is known by alot of people, but may i be the first to start the thread lol.

It was mentioned on FOX Sports by, i think, Michael Zappone who said the Rojas is in talks with Melbourne Victory for next A-League season (ie Not the Champions league).

Anyone heard anything else, have an update on the situation, or any links to other rumour articles or footage of Zappas saying this on TV??

Would be a great siging for Victory if true \:d/

I'd heard there's advanced talks with our mob, actually - think he'd end up wasted like Dugandzic et al at the Victory, whereas we'd make him into a better player than he already is.

But really, I hope he stays with the 'Nix and shows loyalty to them and the Yellow Fever who so magnificently launched his career.

Would be a backwards step.

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

If he did, I would lose all respect for him.

Would quite possibly have been nothing without YF intervention, playing ten good games then running off somewhere else would be disgusting.

Pretty dodgy source, and don't know whether to believe it, but someone on mv forum said that their friend works at the concierge of the Hilton or something, and saw him check in to the hotel.

I know it sounds really dodgy, but we shally see what our "major" announcement is tomorrow

A big mistake if he does go. It is pointless for him to move to another A League club it wont help his development at all. Overseas maybe, even then he has only had 10 professional games so would more than likely be sitting on the bench for someone.

If he goes to Melbourne it will only be for the money certainly not to develop his football

Yeah just like Kruse and Langerak didn't develop their football at Melbourne Victory. Stupid statement really Teza.

Victory targets talented Kiwi teen Rojas Michael Lynch
February 25, 2011
.MELBOURNE Victory has emerged as the strongest suitor for exciting New Zealand winger Marco Rojas as the Kiwi of Chilean extraction wrestles with a three-way battle over which club to play for next A-League season.

Rojas, who turned 19 in November, is weighing up his options but seems sure to quit Wellington Phoenix for a move to Australia to further his development.

Victory is understood to be battling with Adelaide United to secure the services of the exciting youngster who made a huge impression in the second half of the A-League season.

Melbourne is believed to be negotiating with the player's advisors and would love to be in a position to announce a deal, if not today then within days.
The Phoenix is making a major play to keep him at home, with several senior players (headed by striker Paul Ifill) urging him that time is on his side and he can continue his progress better in an environment that he knows well under a coach (Ricki Herbert) who also selects the NZ national team.

Rojas, a skilful attacking player who can operate centrally or in wide areas, fits the Victory template well. While he would be far from a certain starter, the loss of Mate Dugandzic and expected departure of Robbie Kruse would give him opportunities to impress. Adelaide will lose striker Matthew Leckie to German Bundesliga club Borussia Moenchengladbach, so Rojas would be seen as a replacement for him in South Australia.

Wellington will be loathe to lose another talented youngster.

Kosta Barbarouses left the Kiwi club at the end of last season.

I had no problem with Kosta leaving us, he wasn't getting game time, and especially with no youth team his development had completely stalled. Really glad he is doing well at the Roar, in a team that plays the way that suits his game.

If Rojas goes to Melbourne, I will lose a lot of respect for him. He is pretty much guaranteed game time with Wellington, and we play a way that suits his style - get the ball wide, run it at players and deliver. Would expect him to get no love when if plays against us in Wellington.

Better currency exchaneg for starters. $100,000 Aus worth more than $100,000 NZ.

He'll be at a proper team which has full access to AFC facilities, he'll be paid on time (Terry is suspect a present re: finances). Less travel time to away games. A Youth Team set-up if he drops form (Phoenix won't ever get one).

In Melbourne he can live in peace (even thought I'm Sydney based, I can see this for him). He'd fight to be a sporting celebrity and no one here cares about 3 draws at the World Cup.

Plenty of reasons to come over and further his career.

Lets be fair. Nothing that you mentioned above will make him a significantly better footballer than he would be if based in Wellington.

Not exactly, most of the Australian teams played good football this season just passed. Phoenix relied on guts and hard running. He'll improve if he plays here.

Cause he's a Kiwi guy?
And Rojas should stay if even just for the loyalty factor.

Anyway, as FourFourTwo itself has picked up, this is pretty much happening.

I dont think its his fault. His dad is a dickhead and has made the situation much worse.

Pretty sure he's coming to Melbourne though - what Merrick said was correct, we havent signed him yet. His contract with the Phoniex finished at the end of march doesnt it?

Therefore, Merrick is just playing it safe and not saying anything until pen has been put to paper, like he has done with every other transfer he's ever done
