Soccer: tough game ahead for Reds

08 Apr, 2011 10:52 PM

TWO former Socceroos are likely inclusions for Werribee City Bees against Ballarat Red Devils in the Victorian Football Federation state league two in Melbourne today.
Joe Spiteri and new Werribee recruit Danny Tiatto are expected to come into the Bees’ line-up after missing their opening round clash last week.

The Haymes Red Devils, meanwhile, will have an unchanged starting line-up, although Paul McClounan and Jermaine Fletcher have been added to the bench, and Ryan Rykers is unavailable.

The Bees are coached by former Ballarat coach Danny Gnjidic and enjoyed a good 1-0 win over Banyule City.

“This will be our toughest game of the season against a Werribee side who will be even stronger than last week with a couple big name inclusions,” current Ballarat coach Joe Fedele said.

“We know how good their coach and players are and I’m sure the boys will play to the standard that we expect of them and put up a good showing.

“The players were great last week so they’ve all just selected themselves and made my job very easy this week.”

Adam Newbold made a very impressive debut last weekend for Ballarat and was instrumental in at least three of the four goals scored.

In the middle of the park skipper Josh Romein and Brian Shelley will be looking to play significant roles as scoring options, but it was the backline which was most impressive last week and will be pivotal if the Red Devils are to score premiership points today.

New keeper Darryl Newby is still yet to pull the ball out of his own net, with help from number one Michael Leslie and Tristan Romein, in particular.

Charlie and David King will also have important roles in the back half.

Danny Tiatto at Werribee? Interesting.

Strange name for the club though (Werribee City Bees).
