If true, this is a massive blow for Illawarra sport, in particular the A-League bid. Will also have huge ramifications for junior sport in the region.

They've been dodgy for 4-5 years now though, doesn't surprise me too much. Surely a new club will just be made for Wollongong? They're too valuable to football in this country for the FFA not to just make a new team there.

I wouldn't say they've been dodgy. They went into receivership a few years ago, and changed from Wollongong Wolves to Wollongong Community FC to South Coast Wolves. They're a not-for-profit company, which is interesting as well.

Will be interesting to see how things transpire; I'll try and keep this updated.

I can't possibly see why the Coasts are gone. Unless Central Coast joins Northern NSW league... :s Illawarra premier league isn't strong enough by itself does it? Surely we need a South Coast team in the NSW league if not A-League?

You sound like somebody who doesnt know what theyre talking about.

South Coast have struggled financially for a number of years now. They went down the 'community club' path a couple of seasons ago and have basically begged the community for donations a couple of times now. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, but it usually leads to trouble sooner or alter

If the community wasnt interested in supporting this club I dont see the benefit in establishing a new one for the sake of having Illawarra represented. What will change with the next club that is set up?

fact of the matter is, unless they're competing in a national competition the general populace doesn't care enough. And look how much some of the A-League clubs are struggling.

I dont think I said that. I said that replacing South Coast (a club that does have a long history down there) with a new club seems a pointless exercise. If the club does fold I'd say that it would be pretty clear indication that the community down there isnt prepared and/or capable of supporting a State League club.

Why force another one in just because some people feel that Illawarra should be represented?

I'd prefer to see Canberra FC take their spot or keep Bankstown

The competition is called NSW PL, you can not have Sydney comp and call it NSWPL.

If you are interested in growing your sport than include Newcastle, Illawarra, regional NSW and so on, to do so we need investment and the FNSW registered players are paying fees so what is happening with this money?

How much is it put back in to Football development?

Just pray that no one gets hurt on the pitch because the insurance hardly covers the Hospital or any other recovery cost.

Youth State Titles are best indicator of State Football talent up there, this kids state wide go somewhere and possibly play other sports if they do not have football competition at higher level to compete.

And you may well be right SydCro. If that's the case, what i am hoping for is that the FFA are currently in discussions with potential investors - either in the Southern region via reviving the state league club, or with a view to establishing a HAL side there in a couple of seasons' time. Or indeed some kind of South Coast/Canberra amalgam, although I am not convinced these work.

I got nothing to get over, my point is that we have Sydney comp and call it NSW PL and our sport is not growing state wide.
How many FC are financially stable in NSW?

Football teams are successful because of the coaches and players that are playing for them and they need to get paid. More money better football (1+1=2 stuff).

Why is our association FNSW draining teams/ players resources with astronomical fees compared to other sports and put very little back in to our sport?

Good players are coming trough the youth ranks but than leave the sport at senior level.
Rugby, AFL, Cricket put more money back in to their sports it is time we also do that.
