Haven't seen this in any of the other threads about GCU/Thwaite as most of the consensus seems to be that he'd go back to Victory. Victory could really use him to bolster their defense but if this is true it is a solid move by Perth. Josh Mitchell is, in my opinion, not yet good enough to be a starting CB and a pairing of Bas and Thwaite would be intimidating, especially with Neville and Risdon in FB positions.

Quote:
GOLD Coast United captain Michael Thwaite and his teammates have begun a mad scramble to find clubs for next season, with Perth Glory leading the chase to pen a deal for the Socceroo.

Thwaite's three-year contract is about to end.

Interest in the 28-year-old skyrocketed after he was named by national team coach Holger Osieck in his squad for last week's World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia.

Thwaite could link up at Perth Glory with former United players Shane Smeltz, Bas van den Brink and Steve Pantelidis.

It's understood the Glory are very close to wrapping up a deal for the soon-to-be free agent.

However, that could be derailed if a lucrative offer from a Korean club builds momentum.

K-League outfit Incheon United have close ties to Thwaite's management after winger Nathan Burns moved from AEK Athens in January and the club's manager Huh Jung-Moo is thought to be looking for a versatile defender or midfielder.

Incheon have one foreign playing spot vacant on their roster with the K-League allowing clubs to have three foreigners plus one AFC-registered player.

New Zealand World Cup international Glen Moss may also be lost to the A-League.

It is rumoured the star goalkeeper's agent has already begun to organise trials for him during the European summer.

Dead-ball specialist Daniel Severino spent last week in Thailand trialling with teams in Bangkok and is likely to receive confirmation of a move by the end of this month.

Talented United youngsters who still have another year remaining on their playing contracts -- Ben Halloran, Chris Harold, Gol Gol Mebrahtu and Jake Barker-Daish -- were given some respite with confirmation the FFA will honour the deals in full.

Meanwhile, veteran Kristian Rees, the only player to shun the FFA during recent talks, has joined Clive Palmer's Football Australia watchdog organisation.

Rees has started work as a player relations officer, although there is a slim possibility he could join Adelaide United should John Kosmina remain Reds coach next season.

We need to do everything possible for this to happen. Coyne is shit, Mitchell is more than good enough to fill in at CB or LB if Howarth/Berger are out and then Neville/Risdon on the right would complete a pretty solid defence.

Bloody hell, I sincerely hope this doesn't happen as if PG can keep the form they are finally in going we could see a depressing return to their NSL brilliance.

Thwaite is past it and I look forward to putting 5 past Covic thanks to this horrendous signing, why don't they focus on youth instead of getting old players who are past it?

how is thwaite passed it when he's 28? if he was linked to melbourne i'd be happy, but he's linked to perth and apparently victory but not sure if victory still want him.

looks like your club has finally woken up after 7 years and come out and said they want to focus on youth now  victory have had a 6 year head start but heart are still a step ahead of them in some areas

Hahahah that made me chuckle  I have only been a Glory fan for the last 3 seasons, so depression is a regular thing for me. Up until late anyway, I am looking forward to have something to celebrate =)
