I'm hearing from a source that apparently because of the recent spate of high profile names linked to the a-league, Gudjohnsen's agent has offered Eidur's services to Brisbane Roar. He's said to be looking for 1.9 million per season...

Would this be a good move for Brisbane? I think it would be huge but maybe the price is a bit steep unless the Bakrie's are underwriting it.

They passed on him. He scored this goal in a reserve game for them though.

He was likely to be a reserve or bench player as Seattle has two younger absolutely lethal strikers (Fredy Montero and Eddie Johnson). And two others who are also very good and younger who would have been ahead of him (Sammy Ochoa and David Estrada).

Maybe he wanted more playing time than he was likely to get in MLS?

This is great lets pay close to 2 million for a 34 year old and thus showing the door to the greatest foreign player in the A-leaue's history.

No. They had him and a Romanian right back who played for Steau Bucharest named George Ogăraru in on trial for a couple of weeks. Then Marcus Hahnemann (ex-Wolverhampton) became available and expressed a desire to return to the club which launched his career so Seattle chose him as they needed a better #2 keeper than the young inexperienced keepers they tried out. The deal for Gudjohnsen likely couldn't be done before the deadline or the money wasn't there after they signed Hahnemann.

Scoring goals is not a problem for Seattle. (They were the highest scoring team in MLS in 2011). They have a plethora of young attacking talent. Gudjohnsen would have been bench depth for them.

I'm not sure what his wages would be in the A-League but he wasn't going to make anywhere near that in MLS. 200,000 USD max was likely. (like Nesta is getting in Montreal).

OP saying 1.9 million. So i'm going off that.

If he is signed this will be another case of A-League clubs drastically overpaying players.

His agent called Seattle up for the trial. Now he's trying to fleece Brisbane.

I know technically the marquee spot should be used to attract high profile signings, but let's be honest just because a player has a good history in Europe or played for a big club once doesn't mean he's going to carve up the HAL. It's great that we can attract players like Del Piero and Heskey but imo keeping players like Broich, Flores, Berisha etc is just as if not more important, as they offer far more in improving the quality of our league imo.
