This, if SM threads get moved then these should be. If you wish to discuss them in relation to expansion then there is an expansion thread.

This is about a match from the NATIONAL Premier League. It belongs in Australian Football.

Will the National Premier League just be a group of all the first division state leagues, or is it a completely different beast?

Effectively yes.

Will have everyone under the one umbrella as a state based conference system.

NPL teams work all the way down to the junior levels (U15s etc) that play in local leagues.

Disagree, Northern Fury are effectively an ex-A League club, South are not. It's not a stretch of the imagination to consider Northern Fury "relegated."

EDIT: potentially a return in future for an Auckland Knights via the ASB Premiership?

Isn't that called Auckland City?

The very same one that was founded before NZ Knights ever played in the A-League, and still exists now with three Club World Cup performances to show for it, yep.

If that's the case then we should move all the NPL treads to AF. Don't get me wrong I'm no detractor of the fury (quite the contrary)I just think its a wee bit hypocritical when threads about any other non current a league team are started on here they are shouted down for posting in the wrong forum

If the club can succeed in the APL Queensland comp, it will hopefully make it a viable option to pursue for HAL re-admission in the next 5 or so years.

I do think the market is there for a team if the capital is behind such a move, but playing matches in Cairns and Townsville will likely be a must. It expands the market for them considerably to tap into.

Hopefully the club can be a great success.

Townsville will be revisited when the A-League expands if these crowd figures are accurate and sustainable.

A JAKE Navarro double and the cool head of Alex Read saw the Northern Fury seal a comfortable 3-0 win against Western Pride at the Townsville Sports Reserve yesterday.

Navarro scored his brace of goals in the first half of yesterday's National Premier League match, which was the first home game of the Fury's NPL history and its second win of the season.

Missed opportunities late in the game denied the Fury a bigger score margin, but player-coach Gareth Edds said the performance was his team's most promising to date.

"We obviously could have got more (goals) if we had taken all our chances, but the boys followed our game plan - especially in the first half," he said.

"We've got a few areas to work on and late in the game we were fatiguing a little bit.

"But Jake scored a pair of fantastic goals and overall we are very happy with the result," he said.

The home side threatened for most of the first half, but it wasn't until 15 minutes before halftime that Navarro struck his first, thanks to a well-timed ball from the Fury debutant Mick Eisenhut.

Navarro than unleashed a shot just inside the box five minutes later to score his second, which handed the Fury a 2-0 half-time buffer.

The Fury missed two golden chances to score after the break, with the first coming from Ari Isman unmarked in front of goal.

Isman had another chance saved from Pride goalkeeper Steve Purdy, who could do nothing soon after when Read calmly slotted home a pass that landed at his feet following a superb Eisenhut pass.

The Pride began muscling up in defence to resist the Fury's growing pressure, which resulted in two more near misses that would have added to their vital for and against. But the Fury's grim defence allowed the Western Pride just one genuine scoring chance after half-time.

"They (the Pride) didn't have many opportunities and we just shut them down before they knew what they were doing," Fury captain Jared Stanley said.

"We had that many opportunities that we are a little disappointed with the final scoreline, but we got the win and that's what matters." More than 2500 spectators crammed into the Sports Reserve yesterday afternoon to watch the Fury play in Townsville since the club's A League demise in 2011. "It was absolutely unreal to be playing in the Fury home colours and I never thought I'd get this opportunity, so for us to score a win in our first home game is pretty special," Stanley said.
