Last week I watched Olympia versus Nothern tRangers.

I trained with both coaches recently in FFA courses. Both are good blokes, so I had divided loyalties.

Rangers were the better side and deserved to win. Todd Hingston was pretty good for them.

There is a real buzz around Hobart with the new state league.:)

Really hoping the A-league has a Tasmanian team soon its a great opportunity since no other codes are interested. The last team i remember being in that region was the old Tasmanian Devils in the NBL.

Would also love to see it happen. I reckon it'd be a great away trip for fans as well.

Hobart Zebras induced Zelco Kalac to make a one match guest appearance at KGV against Devonport in this last weekend's state league fixtures. Almost 1000 spectators turned up to watch.

Kalac also ran keeping clinics.

He was awesome in goals.=d>

wow, things actually sound really positive down there! I'm hoping to make it down to Tassie after the snow season finishes in mid October, would love to see the creepy forests and go white water rafting the Franklin. Would love to catch some football while there!

Things are really looking up.:) Even last season the Northern and Southern Premier Leagues were not worth watching. I think there were about 8-10 teams in both associations. The competition for places in the eight state league clubs has intensified. Former 'star' players unwilling to commit to training , are no longer selected.

All state league coaches have had to do FFA Advanced Coaching accreditation. The ubiquitous 'hoof ball' has gone. Teams are all trying to play out from the back through the midfield. As opposed to the ball constantly being in transitions, with constant battles for long, high balls and the ensuing second ball contests.

There is a really good site for Tasmanian football. Just type in Walter Pless to Google.

Unfortunately, the football season is over in October for you to catch some football.

This weekend I saw Kingborough play Launceston City yesterday. It was a terrible scrappy game, reminiscent of the old Southern Premier League. It was played in very windy conditions.

The other game I saw this weekend was South Hobart versus Zebras today. This was quite watchable. Apart from Kingorough and City, from games I've observed, all other teams have played some decent football, with sustained possession in midfield. There has been a discernible improvement in standard.

There were so many people at the game today, between South and Zebras, there was no room in the stand. We also had to queue to gain entry, which is a rare phenomenon in Tassie football.

Zelco Kalac has organised the third choice Sydney FC keeper, whose name escapes me, to play for Hobart Zebras. He played today and was impressive in goals.

There is a real buzz around the V League.=d>

There was a record set in the V League a week or so ago. The fastest hat trick recorded in football.

Kosta Kanakaris scored a hat trick for South Hobart against Launceston City in 2 minutes 51 seconds from kick off.

Seemed more like 600 to me.](*,)

Wanderer, Judy Free, is an infamous troll on this site, and others. He is also known as Chips Rafferty. He is the archetypal, malcontented, disaffected Bitter, after being ignominiously dumped as a wannabe high level coach, from the sub-elite coaching circles in Sydney.

He has failed to understand the new FFA NC, failed a FFA Refresher Course and has been deemed a useless, cerebrally challenged anachronism by the movers and shakers in the Australian football milieu.

JF's main claim to fame, is winning a national title as a 45 year old, playing against 80 year old former Socceroos. He is an anonymous non-entity and a nobody going nowhere. That is, apart from falsifying his birth certificate, to win a national title, cheating with his age. Fortuitously for him, he looks old enough for the over seventies, veteran age group.

JF's major recent claim to fame is being banned from most forums he has been a member of. JF has been banned from 442 on at least two occasions, and inexorably gravitates towards an impending third. Ostensibly, he is chronologically mature, but has the emotional and cognitive maturity, equivalent to the average early adolescent.

JF's posts are synonymous with perpetrating disinformation, and are at best perceived as comic entertainment from an emotionally immature, and disaffected old man.](*,)

I've officiated a bunch of state league matches, they'd have been lucky to have 2-300 max. Some of the finals matches can push a few thousand, notably a few years back 10k was cracked and again last year for the GF. Disappointing, but the reality is there is bugger all known about the state level games here in Sydney because there is just no coverage other than the Football NSW site. The irony being, the few times I've taken friends to these matches they've said in many ways they prefer them to A-league matches - cheaper food, no lines for anything, better seating (halfway or behind goals, wherever you like is free), easy parking and the actual football is much more serious and passionate, and the drop in standard is easily forgiven when you consider how rough the games are played in much better conditions (12 degrees as opposed to 28!) for faster more agressive football. It's a shame.

As for the Judy Free stuff, fair enough - not like it bothers me what half the trolls on this site reckon  For example, half the posters seem to have some crazy idea that the Socceroos have an actual chance of qualifying for Brazil with one or two simple squad changes but the same manager

Are you officiating in the NPL?

I live in Maroubra and there are literally no teams near me. The closest would would APIA but they don't play home games, so the next best option becomes Rockdale. Will be attending their matches for the rest of this season. I'd guess that the amount of potential spectators Olympic lose because of this forum must be pretty significant
