N.B nice facilities. Why would you move a totally relevant thread from the Australian to the State forum? It is purely about the aleague and offers new South's unwavering attempt to continue pursuing an aleague license whilst also showcasing the amazing facilities on offer. Moving his thread is a "paid off" move IMO that more than hints at bias and hypocrisy. Australia deserves to know and see what South Melbourne can offer no the video showcases it in glorious HD. Sure it makes Heart's trash-like facilities look like a joke but that is why South Melbourne is targeting the Heart license as it can acquire it and take it to the next level. Edited by southfan: 10/5/2013 10:00:19 PM Can you tell me one thing in that interview that was new, or independently worthy of a thread as it isn't being discussed in the other two threads...I just watched it and it told me nothing new, it should have been posted in the ćurrent thread. And rather thań lock it, I moved it.

It would be good if they could have a name that references their Greek heritage without alienating mainstream Australia. Shame Olympians is taken.

Over the decades we've worn all white with blue trim and our original kit was white shirt with a red V and blue shorts, so we can play around a bit with the kit if need be. I'd personally go for the all white Real Madrid/Leeds look. I also kind of like sides wearing a totally different colour as an away strip, maybe green or maroon if this thing gets off the ground. As for the name, as long as South Melbourne is in it then I don't care. However it might be too tacky and unpopular if we end up 'taking over' Melb Heart and call ourselves SM Heart FC. South Melbourne United was one of the 3 original clubs back in the 50's that formed SM Hellas SC. Wouldn't mind being called United, better than some cheesy, gimmicky nickname. Still, there's a long, long way to go.... Look I'm sure the individuals that are stumping up the millions here will be doing everything in their powers to create a football environment that will make everyone feel welcome otherwise what's the point? No one is that stupid to invest millions in an A League franchise only to turn it into some sort of 60's and 70's greeks only social club like many on this forum are paranoid it will become. Will be hard work for sure but at leastwe have a massive head start with our top class facilities, youth set-up and football knowledge.

So, SMFC want to "play at the highest level in Australia"?
The soon to be commenced FFA Cup will be a chance to do just that. If South can pull big, well-behaved crowds to these FFA Cup matches (especially against a-league clubs), then we can sit down and talk meaningfully about it. (One thing to talk about: have South play in colours other than blue and white, and to stop selling "Hellas 100" memberships to help lose the 'Greeks only' tag.)
If they can't pull these crowds, then they stay in the state league.
I think this is an extremely reasonable and rational approach to this issue that both the pro-SM or anti-SM people would appreciate.
Problem solved

We have two threads already discussing South Melbourne being knocked back in their take over attempt of Melbourne Heart, we do not need anymore.
