Just because you keep repeating it doesn't give it any more significance. It's in an internet survey, being asked on a AFL-oriented article on an NRL/AFL oriented publication.

I accept that's a possibility, although we don't know for sure.

It's also a possibility that Brisbane has a great percentage of retirees.

Another possibility is that has more anglo-celt retirees than southern Europeans (who would most likely opt for bocce).

I would agree with you that its not exactly the most scientific survey you are ever going to come across, nevertheless, it's there on the same page of the article which was linked, and I've simply made a reference to it in passing.

Anyway, as I said, soccer has come from behind to overtake lawn bowls, so I would have thought that is a good result and positive news.

One can see from my posts that my reporting of the survey results was completely unbiased.

1) We don't care about the results on the same page. If we did, we'd click on the link.
2) As afro said, they aren't raw numbers about anything substantial. Some people have just taken the piss and voted lawn bowls.

I'd like to point out that more people play soccer than AFL in Australia.

Of course lawn bowls' participation rates are rising. Australia, and Queensland have aging populations. As well as this many younger people play lawn bowls at their respective local bowling clubs, which is a relatively new phenomenon.

I just checked the site again, and lawn bowls has moved ahead of soccer.

I hope you realize that "soccer" has the highest participation rates of any sport in Australia :lol:

afl is played in schools in western Sydney because the teachers who introduce it gets benefits.
also at the afl trials at school......oh that's right there was none.
at the trials for the bill turner squad boys team we had over 50 students trial, and these students had to be below 15 years old.
this is in the heart of western Sydney.
tell me again that afl is going good in western Sydney.

afl is nothing at our school, at all. I am still yet to see one student bring an afl ball from home. its okay though, we all know that your miserable sport is trying so hard to get the recognition that football gets

No, I'm not after a medal, none of this affects me personally and I don't have any sort of connection with Qld.

If I have understood the article, the biggest point is the extent to which Australian Football is now played in schools, which is a very, very big change from 30 years ago.

That process is now underway in Western Sydney, and I think it's something we should celebrate - it's great that kids have a wide range of sporting choices and if Australian Football helps increase that choice, that is fantastic news.

I note on the survey that Australian Football is doing very well.

In america the participation rate of 'soccer' is on the rise largely because parents are worried about their children being concussed playing Gridiron. NFL is still the most popular sporting code in the United States - by a country mile - but 'soccer' participation is up because parents don't want to see their little darlings getting hurt.

Even without their bullshit argument about participation rates somehow = popularity, the Lions crowds have absolutely nothing on the Broncos.
