The original 'Age of Empires' Gold Edition. I don't care what anyone says, the the games after it were balls in comparison.

Dragon Ball Z

Being able to say things were 'gay' without offending every person in the world.

Still got my N64, first console I ever got, the collection is still expanding. Nearly bought Conker's Bad Fur Day not too long ago, but wasn't willing to part with $200.

Retro games, fashion, music and TV shows that we miss

BY LUCY KIPPIST NEWS.COM.AU JUNE 22, 2013 8:04AM

ROLLING Stone Magazine recently advised its readers to prepare for the return of the drive-in. That's where you turn up in your car, wind down the window and watch a movie in the comfort of your own vehicle.

The news inspired news.com.au to come up with our own list of stuff that we miss from the past. Be it toys, food or fashion items the list is our tribute to stuff that we miss, that really did what it did well.

And we'd like to see all of these things return to Australian life, pronto!

Tell us what you think in the comments and don't forget to add your own longed-for item. Better yet, send us a photograph to news@news.com.au and we'll post them on our Facebook page.

1. Hypercolour T-shirts: C'mon, you know why.

2. 12 o'clock close for shops on Saturdays: There is SO much more to life than trying to find a park at Westfield.

3. Ruffles chips: Long live the crinkle cut with extra crinkles.

4. Nintendo 64: Donkey Kong, Mario Kart and Golden Eye.

5. Elastics: The most fun you can have for 10c. Plus, it burnt calories.

6. Curly shoelaces: Why be straight-laced?

7. Mood rings: There remains no better way to warn others of the way you REALLY feel.

8. Australia's Wonderland: It really was "too much fun in one day". Now watch this.

9. Game Boys: Tetris, Lawrence of Arabia and Dungeons and Dragons are still the greatest games ever.

10. TAB cola: It's named after a computer key, name-checked in The Simpsons, and even though it was a 'cola' it also came in CLEAR.

11. Hair mascara: The closest thing to hair colour a pre-teen could get.

12. Jumbo multi-colour click pens: Souvenir shops just aren't the same without them.

13. Passing notes: Texts are one thing, but they can't compare to unfurling that tightly-folded foolscap-lined note from your friend.

14. Metal monkey bars: Better grip, better height, better everything.

15. Rubik's cube: The last toy that every kid had to have, that did not require a charger.

16. Mix tapes: Sure, we've got the iPod but nothing compares to the dedication of time and effort a mix tape required.

17. Chain letters, handwritten: Same reason as the passed note, but the best chain letters were the ones sent by post. Real snail mail. Just for you.

18. The TV show, 'Man, O Man': This should jog your memory.

19. The saying: "Talk to the hand"

20. Pop watches: Because who doesn't want to wear their watch on their collar?
