Why am I posting the most obvious “we need to discuss this” shit on here? Why isn't one of the tards doing this? http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-03-03/live-afl-announcementRolling updates and reaction: AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou to stand down Join Nathan Schmook for live updates from AFL House Andrew Demetriou confirms he will stand down as CEO at the end of this season • AFL to begin 2-3 month search for Demetriou's replacement • Deputy CEO Gillon McLachlan among leading candidates : In this morning's farewell speech, Demetriou admitted his disappointment that the League was not able to curb the increasing use of supplements in the game. However, when asked whether he bore a share of responsibility for the Essendon crisis, Demetriou was unequivocal. "I don't accept any responsibility for people who try to infiltrate the game, to inject young men with God-knows what substances, to introduce practices that are abhorrent to the game and to families," he said. "Our job is to try and put as many preventative measures in places as we could, and even as good as our integrity department was, we didn't pick that up. "That's not a fault. You don't catch every speeding fine, you don't catch every person who breaks the law. "We are better equipped today to tackle those issues. The AFL's in much better shape today, as is the industry, because of the learnings that happened last year."

Don't think this has much relevance to football fans tbh, although as an AFL supporter too I won't be sad to see him go.

Disagreed with more decisions made by the AFL in his tenure than I agreed with, so not exactly going to be waving him goodbye. Interesting to see who steps up.

Apparently Andrew has been grooming gillon as he's successor . Could the commission throw a curve ball and hire say a ceo who has no football background

Best sporting administrator in this country. The other codes must be breathing a sigh of relief. I know I am.

His job was to put the prominence and growth of his code first, perhaps he could have been a tad more lenient but you wouldn't be expecting Gallop to give AFL any help would you? He was just doing his job FFS and him leaving isn't going to change anything.

Of course it was his job to beat the competition of his employer, just like any other industry. And he did a good job of it, especially during the World Cup bid.
