Poor Kimberley Davis.

The 21-year-old Australian woman was livid when she slammed into a bicyclist while texting late last year, putting dents in her car. The victim suffered a spinal fracture and would spend the next three months in a hospital, but Davis wasn't having any of it, The Standard reports.

"I just don’t care because I’ve already been through a lot of bullshit and my car is, like, pretty expensive and now I have to fix it," she told a responding officer two days after the Sept. 20 collision. "I’m kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car. I don’t agree that people texting and driving could hit a cyclist. I wasn’t on my phone when I hit the cyclist."

Davis, of Port Fairy, pleaded guilty on Monday to dangerous driving and was fined $4,500. Police say she used her phone behind the wheel 44 times before running down the cyclist. She called emergency responders but parked more than 300 feet away from the victim and refused to offer him help.

Davis couldn't contain her sadness after the loss of her license, and she made her woes known on Facebook:

The photo above appears to show that Davis expects to get her license back in May. She won't -- a judge on Monday suspended her license for another nine months.

The wife of the injured cyclist -- who got spinal surgery and was told he could have been a paraplegic -- said she was deeply disappointed that Davis' license wasn't suspended for longer.

I don't understand why people like this are allowed to continue to drive. She clearly has no responsibility and isn't fit for the roads, can you really trust this person to learn from their mistake and be a safer, more aware driver? She's clearly a dumbell and I can't fathom why someone who mows someone down in their car gets a slap on the wrist while their victim has to spend the remainder of their lives dealing with their injuries. Unfortunately the justice system prefers to "treat" offenders by letting them off lightly rather than punishing them as they ought to be. In the end the offender feels like they got away with it rather than taking responsibility for and learning from their actions.

So what you guys are trying to say is that even though an idiot girl was texting and hit a cyclist with the SIDE of her car, an important detail because this means the cyclist wasn't in front of her and not in the middle of the road, the cyclist was in the wrong.

Really, lets put it in perspective.

If someone close to you was adamant on riding a bike on the road because of whatever reason (savings they would incur due to not paying for petrol, registration etc) and was hit by a car because they were travelling a bit slower. Would you tell them you deserved it, it's your fault that the car hit you!

It reminds me somewhat of the ad where it went "every k over is a killer" but in this instance for the cyclists "every k under is a killer and a deserved one too"

How piss-poor is our so-called "justice" system.

Fuck these people, it's clear she has no remorse for her actions and she hasn't learned anything.

What will a 9-month layoff do to her driving skills or her temperament? Nothing.

Here's a Street View link for your own perusal.

Even if it was the law for cyclists to be on the footpath if available, and even if the cyclist almost certainly wasn't also paying taxes and rego for the road to be there, the driver would have to be fucking retarded, drunk, or obviously distracted by their phone to hit someone on this bustling thouroughfare.

I am at the moment, actually, until I sell my old car. Nevertheless I ride my bike at peak hour when I have jobs in the city that start at peak hour because traffic and parking are a bitch.

I pay rego (twice) and taxes. The roads are as much mine as anyone. You should thank me for not being more traffic and taking up a parking spot.

Hang on a minute.

Why are we blaming the cyclist? The woman was texting ffs. Then didn't even apologise, didn't offer help when he was injured, nearly put the guy in a wheelchair, then at the end of all of that says she "doesn't care" that he's injured cos her car is slightly damaged and she loses her licence.

Doesn't see a day behind bars, only has her licence suspended for 18 months and a fine. Entirely incongruent with other acts of criminal negligence in other fields. Perhaps it has something to do with her gender and appearance, perhaps not.

Which is why they're on the road, although sometimes they may feel pressured to go on the footpath, by abusive fuckers that rage at them being on the road.

Ooooo you're forced to slow down slightly so as to not hit a cyclist and that adds 20 seconds to your day what a fucking tragedy.

This.

Either cyclists should pay rego like the rest of us, or they should stay off the road.

1) A large portion of rego fees pay for repairs to the roads that cars damage much more that cyclists.
2) Everyone that has a bike, probably has a car, should they pay double because they use both forms of transportation?
3) Cycling should be encouraged as a healthy and green alternative to driving.

Many people pay rego fees for more than 1 car, so it shouldnt matter that cyclists have cars at home.

Doesn't see a day behind bars, only has her licence suspended for 18 months and a fine. Entirely incongruent with other acts of criminal negligence in other fields. Perhaps it has something to do with her gender and appearance, perhaps not.

So by your reasoning, because a 30 ton Mack truck pays more registration than you, when you get cleaned up by one going through an intersection you'll "deserve it".

Whether or not the cyclist paid rego on his bike shouldn't determine whether we deserves to be a paraplegic for the rest of his life due to someone else's negligence.

Wish she got the book thrown at her. If I had made the same mistake i'd be cheering at that outcome

Then you would have no argument at all, kids and adults alike will have exactly the same right of use, and I can tell you I would ride in the middle of the road at ALL times, not to be smart but if the cars are behind me they either overtake into oncoming traffic ( see how mucho they are when they are faced with a ton of metal coming at them) or simply live with it because I will live longer with the idiots behind me.

People in cars, no fucking idea. Get out there and dodge the idiots for a week, maybe you'll wake up to yourselves.

I can tell you as a former courier I've seen the most despicable crap going on from car drivers . But yet if a cyclist gets hit , a truck is involved In a accident or a motor cyclist gets hit . Somehow they cop the blame . Maybe just maybe drivers need to realise that driving isn't a right its a damn privilege
