Huffpost wrote:Texting Driver Who Slammed Cyclist: I, Like, 'Just Don't Care'The Huffington Post | by Andy Campbell Poor Kimberley Davis. The 21-year-old Australian woman was livid when she slammed into a bicyclist while texting late last year, putting dents in her car. The victim suffered a spinal fracture and would spend the next three months in a hospital, but Davis wasn't having any of it, The Standard reports. "I just don’t care because I’ve already been through a lot of bullshit and my car is, like, pretty expensive and now I have to fix it," she told a responding officer two days after the Sept. 20 collision. "I’m kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car. I don’t agree that people texting and driving could hit a cyclist. I wasn’t on my phone when I hit the cyclist." Davis, of Port Fairy, pleaded guilty on Monday to dangerous driving and was fined $4,500. Police say she used her phone behind the wheel 44 times before running down the cyclist. She called emergency responders but parked more than 300 feet away from the victim and refused to offer him help. Davis couldn't contain her sadness after the loss of her license, and she made her woes known on Facebook: The photo above appears to show that Davis expects to get her license back in May. She won't -- a judge on Monday suspended her license for another nine months. The wife of the injured cyclist -- who got spinal surgery and was told he could have been a paraplegic -- said she was deeply disappointed that Davis' license wasn't suspended for longer.

A cyclist already did apparently. I'd love to see the judge go "I sentence the defendant to two years jail" *bangs gavel* "Objection Your Honour" "I like, just don't care."

Was the cyclist on the road?
If you slow down traffic by riding on the road you deserve to get hit.

I don't understand why people like this are allowed to continue to drive. She clearly has no responsibility and isn't fit for the roads, can you really trust this person to learn from their mistake and be a safer, more aware driver? She's clearly a dumbell and I can't fathom why someone who mows someone down in their car gets a slap on the wrist while their victim has to spend the remainder of their lives dealing with their injuries. Unfortunately the justice system prefers to "treat" offenders by letting them off lightly rather than punishing them as they ought to be. In the end the offender feels like they got away with it rather than taking responsibility for and learning from their actions.

So what you guys are trying to say is that even though an idiot girl was texting and hit a cyclist with the SIDE of her car, an important detail because this means the cyclist wasn't in front of her and not in the middle of the road, the cyclist was in the wrong. You fuckers best be trolling.

If you slow down traffic by riding on the road you deserve to get hit. Really, lets put it in perspective. If someone close to you was adamant on riding a bike on the road because of whatever reason (savings they would incur due to not paying for petrol, registration etc) and was hit by a car because they were travelling a bit slower. Would you tell them you deserved it, it's your fault that the car hit you! It reminds me somewhat of the ad where it went "every k over is a killer" but in this instance for the cyclists "every k under is a killer and a deserved one too"

How piss-poor is our so-called "justice" system.
Fuck these people, it's clear she has no remorse for her actions and she hasn't learned anything.
What will a 9-month layoff do to her driving skills or her temperament? Nothing.

Nevertheless I ride my bike at peak hour when I have jobs in the city that start at peak hour because traffic and parking are a bitch. I pay rego (twice) and taxes. The roads are as much mine as anyone. You should thank me for not being more traffic and taking up a parking spot.

Having said this I find "cyclists" (as in the lycra wearing enthusiasts) worse than anyone and have them swearing at me more than any car driver. I'm just on my way to the station, Jeez.

But if you're the kind of person who tars all cyclists with the same brush and proclaims that they "deserve" it then you're no better than they are.
