FQ Announces 2015 Club Championships
19.12.2014
Football Queensland has today announced the proposed 2015 Club Championships as the final piece in the puzzle in bringing the best regional and metro football players together.
The 2015 Club Championships would be held on the Gold Coast during the September/October School Holidays and will include representative clubs from across the country competing on an invitational basis.
The Club Championships would involve the following age groups:
Boys – Under 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18
Girls – Under 13, 15, 18
Football Queensland’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr Ben Mannion today said, "We have listened to a lot feedback over the past few months and the biggest thing that has stood out to me, especially in regional Queensland, is the need to create more playing opportunities."
"The Club Championship concept can involve children at every age group throughout the country. We have the ability to create something big, something that football is craving. A football festival running for two weeks over the September/October holidays will allow players from all around the country to compete against their peers, especially from some of our more remote representative clubs."
"We obviously need to make sure we are not competing with FFA’s Under 13 & 14 Boys National Youth Championships in Coffs Harbour next year. We have proposed an early start for these age groups, which willallow players to compete at both events. We are currently in discussions with FFA about finding the best wayto move forward and Football Queensland sees this concept as an important date in the football calendar.
The announcement of the 2015 Club Championships comes on the back of the launch of the Inter-City Challenge in Regional Queensland, also involving representative clubs in that area.
Football Queensland today announced the Final Draw for the Inter-City Challenge, which will involve teams from Far North Queensland in the North to Wide Bay in the South, to be split into two divisions.
FNQ Heat, Northern Fury and Mackay Crusaders will all compete in a minimum of 25 games throughout the year. Twelve of these games will be in the Inter-City Challenge and twelve games in a local Cup competition to be played mostly on weekends and with some matches being played mid-week. The local Cup competition is pencilled in as the ‘Frank Farina’ Cup and the winners of each area will have the ability to go on to play against other regions to find an overall champion in each age group. Local competition administrators will provide teams for the Frank Farina Cup and these should be the best clubs in each of the competition age groups.
Teams from Central Queensland and Wide Bay regions will also compete against each other in a central division and these teams and competitions would also be managed locally including friendly matches against community football teams.

Great to get all the kids at one location so more eyes can see their talents.
