China - around in droves, all wearing those red t-shirts with "Go China"; conformity is ingrained. You can tell football is a relatively new "thing" for them cos they all scream like girls when the centre forward chases a pointless long ball he has no hope of ever getting onto.

Iraq - supporters seem segregated, dunno if this is along religious lines.

Iran - numbers, noise, colour and hot chicks - pretty much the stand outs.

Japan - around in decent enough numbers, but oddly quiet in the stands. Do we expect too much of them? Maybe they're lacking some of their usual organisation.

North Korea - RBB and invented active support.

Sth Korea - in good numbers and making some good noise during games, but nothing really noteworthy.

Uzbekistan - good noise from their small numbers, including a funny guy with clown hair. A couple of big Aussie flags being waved, which is a nice/classy touch.

Australia - surprised at the number of current replica shirts (maybe people like pretending we're Brazil). Usual shitty chants when they happen, including a lot of boo-ing which could be taken the wrong way - but nothing is really meant by it, its just the way things are done here. I think we've done a good job of "adopting a team".


All in all, been great, and must surely go down as one of if not the best Asian Cup off the field.

Iran created one of my favourite ever football atmospheres I've seen.

I expected more Japanese fans, and more of an atmosphere, at the Newcastle game tbh (but tbf, they still brought a heap, just not as much as I thought).

The Omani supporters converted to being Aussie fans by about 3-0. Led an OzzyOzzyOzzy Oioioi

China is typically rent a crowd. Exactly what Guangzhou Evergrande did against WSW.
I know people that had been told that if they went to the game in Canberra they'd be given a free Chinese shirt/jersey.

The Iranians are the best I've experienced in Sydney.
The Socceroo crowd is the worst :lol:

Just on that note, does the football fraternity get first dibs at Socceroo matches or is it just open to Joe Public to buy tickets.

It would be nice if the stadium was full of football people and not your Fanatics, Rugby/AFL type people.

If you're a member of the football family you get first dibs on tickets when they first go on sale but it makes little difference if the match isn't sold out.

Nearly every country has far better support than Australia, embarrassing stuff.

Iran, is the best by far. Had so much fun tonight, around the tight ass aussies around me that wanted them to sit down, I was going for Iran and loving it, oh and Omar A because he is one of the players of the tournimate.

Iraq in brisbane have been good, similar to Iran but lesser numbers.

I've been impressed with uzebekistan, you can always hear them with small numbers. Love the guy with that giant square hat.

Japan has been a big disappointment for me. not up to standard. Last time they were in brisbane in a WC qualifier they sang all night filled the milton end of the stadium. i think iran is way more organised with offical cappos going up and down the aisle. Been disapointed with all east asian supportors, koreans were better than japan.

China was decent, but around my area the worst behave, lots of bottles were being thrown.

Australia is Australia, I am more of a sit down watch the game sort of guy, unless i am in active support bay. I don't care that the people around me stand up and cheer, i just stand up and watch the game. but the people around me today hated the irans standing up and cheering, these are football fans as they been to every game. Australians just not into it.

What kind of idiot would just stay in the same seat at Suncorp if they are annoyed by Iran fans jumping up and down in front of them? There's probably 10 thousand empty seats to choose from.

yes they arent into to but its also the fact that the non football fans will jump at anything that australia as a nation is involved in. At the Australia/Kuwait game i had a guy next to me yelling for offside when there was a throw in.. EVERY THROW IN! until i explained to him which was a mistake on my part because then he kept asking me why this and that was happening and also asked who tim cahill was ffs

add to that a bloke asked me who tim cahill was and who was our best player ffs

The Iranian fans were great tonight. Gotta love their cheering. Disappointed that over 2000 fans bought tickets but didn't bother to show.

Probably the loudest of the group games in Brisbane and less than 12000 attended. Shows what a keen group can do.

Well done, even though I would have liked UAE to win.

Their #10 was special, hair and all.

Just really enjoying seeing all the fans from other Asian countries at games.:)

they also ask me if i was going for australia on thursday. yeah of course, im not going to sydney and newcastle and bought tickets if i wasn't fan for australia. I guess i was more vocal in this game than i am in the australian game. I just get mad when im watching australia, i just sit quietly otherwise i would be swearing my head off and get ejected from the game. Roar games im fine with.

We could really learn a thing or two from them. Their chants and clapping are very simple, but without the "cringe". Easy for everyone to get into (and boy do they what!). There's ebbs and flows, so doesn't require incessant chanting like the Japanese. Basically perfect for Australians. We should knock one or two of them off.

The one gripe is the group stage is a couple of days too long
If it adheres to the format of the world cup, we would have 4 group games a day (for 2 groups) rather than have 2 games a day (at the same time)

They should have played 2 games at the same time starting at 6pm and 2 games at the same time starting at 8pm

We would have had the last 8 starting today if it adhered to my scheduling

By the way, Euro 2012 the croats, russians, polish fans created the best atmosphere i had ever seen at a major tournament. Sometimes intimidating. oh how i wish we had the 2022 world cup.

I admire your enthusiasm but the main problem with playing 4 group games a day in this situation and keeping the same schedule is that there are half the number of teams.

If Australia and South Korea were starting their Quarter Final matches today they would end up having played on average every 2.75 days...

As professional sportsmen, wouldn't that just equate to 1 less training session?

Didnt the a league once complain about how much training was done as opposed to playing? Players prefer playing real games over training

Kick the bogans out of the stadium, replace them with actual football fans and the socceroos games might have some atmosphere.

If they played 4 games a night for the final round of matches, 6pm & 8pm

The whole scenario of 4800 people at stadium australia would have been avoided!

I sat in the Iranian active support section (another chance for Humbert the racist to call me a race traitor) after helping some Iranian fans on the train and had a ball. I understand enough Farsi to follow the chants and the best was one Iranian hipster who tried to start an ironic Khomeini chant. He got a good laugh. The other thing I loved was that when they were excited most spoke Farsi but when pissed at the ref reverted to Aussie English. Also the traditional Brisbane cry of shoot farkin.

And lots of hot chicks wearing very little. Typical of the heavy handed Suncorp security was an Iranian babe in a little red dress dancing with the flag. She had an entire bay to herself to shamelessly attention whore it up and everyone was happy. Until some fat seco made her move on because that bay had to remain empty. All match whenever somebody moved into that bay the sects moved them on for no reason. I bet all the visiting Iranians and Khalijis can't wait to get home to the freedom of their own countries.

There were Iraqi supporters at the match waving flags. It was an appropriate security response to make sure there was a buffer between fans, including the UAE supporters. Nothing like calling a women a whore to light a fuse.

In the bay next to the one they kept empty the upper half were all UAE fans (their only vocal section) and the lower half were all Iranians. There was no trouble there and removed all need to keep that one bay empty. Just typically pointless heavy handed security.

So the Iranian fans in the lower half were active?

Hell yeah, lots of banners, flags and singing. Just like all of the other Iranians.

Some people just manage to find issues with security/police/bouncers. Some of them are dicks, but just be sensible and if they tell you to stop something, is usually a reason for it (outside of them being a dick) and just carry on doing what you want without intentionally pissing them off. Suncorp security do a great job IMO. Let the banter fly and let people move reasonably freely when there are empt sections. Probably didnt help that in the first match half of AAMI Park thought it would be fine to make paper planes out of their matchday programs and throw them on the pitch, meaning heightened security from the get-go.
