Reports in Europe have suggested Melbourne City have signed former Aston Villa and Denmark goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen.
The Danish keeper has penned a two-year deal with the A-League club but the signing won't be announced for a few weeks, according to Danish news website BT.
Sorensen spent 16 consecutive seasons in the Premier League with 364 appearances playing for Aston Villa, Stoke City and Sunderland between 1999-2015.
The 39-year-old played in the 2002 and 2010 World Cups for Denmark - accumulating 101 international appearances over 13 years.
Melbourne City have been consistently linked to Sorensen after releasing goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne at the end of last season.
Tando Velaphi is currently the only custodian on the Melbourne club's books

"Okay gentlemen, David Villa's 10 4 game stint and a permacrock Damien Duff failed to appeal to fans. We've secured Aaron Mooy as one of our marquees for another three years or until a Championship side snaps him up, but we still need a big name to make our marketing experiment appeal to potential consumers. Our CFG overlords are willing to fund a move for a more well known player. Someone who will get people into the stadium and sell shirts." "Let's sign a goalie!" "Mate..." "..." "... you're a frickin' genius."
For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby

Melbourne Football reporting three year deal and imminent announcement so who knows.
JVS said that we'd announce two players before our Wellington fixture, so I suspect that this is the one.

I have no clue why you would waste a spot on a keeper unless they were outstanding and you had sorted out your whole squad and were left with a spot or two. There are some decent kids coming through and a few very good guys in the NPL

There are some decent kids coming through and a few very good guys in the NPL Without commenting on this particular keeper, i actually disagree with this being a wasted spot. A good keeper is equally as important as a good striker. It only takes a keeper to make 1 save a game that other keepers wouldnt make and that can make a difference of 2 points or even 3 points. In a league as close as the A league, a classy keeper can be easily the difference between a premiership and missing the finals. We do have a lot of good keepers in Australia, but i cant see how signing a keeper is a wasted spot, if they are better than their replacement. If anything, it is is smart thinking. And even from a spectator point of view, there is nothing more exciting than seeing your keeper make a spectacular save. I think it is actually a pretty good move, if they guy is still any good, of course.
