Adelaide are waiting for an answer from a striker whose description fits Kuranyi perfectly. It might also fit someone else but who? Adelaide is also close to signing an experienced winger. Burns, perhaps Holman fit that description but I am sure others do as well http://www.news.com.au/sport/football/a-league/adelaide-reds/adelaide-united-put-offer-to-mystery-marquee-striker/news-story/a921a5aec9147d2297bc2f57decb1e50

I'll go with that ,,, Klose would be too expensive and he is 38 where as Kuranyi is only 34

Judging by the description, it's most likely Berbatov. Since the FFA are keen to see him join the A-League, is it possible we could get a slice of the marquee fund?
For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby

Berbatov would surely justify a special guest position with FFA support, but I doubt he would boost crowds much as he would hardly play, he would be injured most of the season.

An ill-informed decision which will most likely backfire? Right up the FFA's alley!

Perhaps Ante only mentioned his Bundesliga stint to be as vague as possible and make it harder for Val to narrow down and then flood the papers with BERBATOV TO ADELAIDE articles. Who else fits the description?

They might (considering how much he likes his occasional little digs at the club), but he is a massive git anyway.

Any guesses for the mystery Aussie winger? My guess is Nathan Burns.

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

He didn't play during Sweden's qualification campaign. All signs still point to Berbatov.

Actuallyy misread the article
"the international striker who played for his country in the qualification stage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup"
So not at the WC, just the qualification.
Mark Janko.

Marc Janko has only just started with 3 goals in 4 games for Basel, he is not leaving there. But the Austrian Bundesliga would be a tricky twist on the article.

Didn't score any goals last season, and spent a few years in Russia, but is currently uncontracted, so still seems to fit the description,

Not sure if and where he is playing atm.

Was most recently playing with Sion in Switzerland.

The article suggests it's someone who hasn't played for their country for 10 years. That would rule out Juranyi, Klose, Olic, Berbatov etc
Hard to see how someone who hasn't played international football for 10 years will be a marquee, unless they were really from one of the powerhouse nations of the time: Italy, France, Germany, Brazil

Also, reports suggest the target speaks Spanish but isn't Spanish.
South American perhaps...

Don't understand why anyone is suggesting German players since the article pretty clearly rules out it being a German.

+xDon't understand why anyone is suggesting German players since the article pretty clearly rules out it being a German. Not a German and not Spanish, judging from the article. Another thing from the article is this part: will become Adelaide’s most significant signing in the history of the club This is coming from a club that had Romario ffs. So surely it is a big name.
