The criteria they are asking for actually tends to give existing NPL clubs the best chance (if they can raise the funds).

Finally let the best bids win. Though we all know Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane bids will be the most likely candidates. I personally would prefer the South West Sydney bid to the Southern Expansion bid and the Brisbane FC (Gladiators) bid over Brisbane Strikers from what I have heard about the merits of each bid. Southeast Melbourne or South Melbourne should also be considered, although I feel the Southeast Melbourne bid has a greater chance to succeed than South Melbourne bid primarily because South Melbourne is too close to Victory and City.

You do realise a bidding system has never taken place right? The teams have already been picked..the rest is theatre.

We don't even know if the FFA will be in charge by then. The speculation is fun though.

Looking at the criteria, legacy clubs will be very strong in the 2nd and 4th criteria. The 1st might trip up a few clubs and the 3rd might be tricky for those not fully prepared. The 5th criteria is the biggest BS. That's basically where the FFA want the new teams to be. If you are not from that area, too bad. That 5th criteria probably has 80% of the weighting, the 3rd 10%, 1st 5% and the 2nd & 4th the remaining 5%. That will ensure the FFA get the clubs where they want them and they can say it's all above board. If the process was truly transparent, the weighting of these criteria would be known up front for all bidders.

You do realise a bidding system has never taken place right? The teams have already been picked..the rest is theatre. They have to run the full bidding process - that way they can get interested parties to do research and provide detailed plans... Which the FFA can pass onto their 'preferred' bidders. They did it with Southern Cross to Melbourne Heart, and they did it with all three West Sydney bids before passing data/plans onto Rovers, then using it to start their own Wanderers.

Those that don't contact the A-League and hazard a guess you'd probably cross them off straight away, as demonstrates a lack of due diligence (a criteria of the EOI).

+x+xPlease Tasmania!! They are dying for a professional sports team Hobart Hurricanes does anybody else wonder if ffa's hanging on for grim death is aimed at getting their 2 clubs per major city in the a league over the line as per foxtels demands? eg. second brisvegas, adelaide and perth to be in the next few expansions. once they have those if carefully manipulated in future pro/rel they can be assured of presence in those markets and they might finally loosen the grip as franks legacy might be seen to be complete. ive no idea, but its hard to see much logic behind their manic desire to keep hold of the reins.

Interesting that they are asking for bidders but have not released details on a new operating model yet. Wasn't that meant to come first so that they would be able to fund expansion? Wasn't that the line, 'we can't expand because we can't afford it so we need to change the operating model'. Surely the details of the new operating model has significant impact on the financial details and forecasts of any proposal. Actually none of it matters, expansion clubs have already been picked and probably already know the details of any new model.
