So given Australias recent results i think it would only be fair to post another poll given we have won a few matches. So ill change the question to. "Post Asian cup, do you want Arnold to lead Australia to the WCQ and potentially Confederations Cup? and do you feel confident he can get us to the next world cup from what you have seen from him so far?" I dont think we have looked impressive at all but i am a believer that results are all that matter in the end of the day and the man has got us to a reasonable stage (given a pen shoot out can go either way) and he needs to be given 'credit' for that because even though we should be beating every team we have faced due to the sheer fact our squad is superior (however not as superior as some here might think) he has had to deal with a number of injuries to key players most notable would of Mooy and regardless he has kept us in the competition this long. Im still Arnold out though i would say i am less 'Arnold out' then I was after losing to Jordan... I dont think he really has the tactical nous to beat a superior squad (ie i cant see us beating a Japan) but i am also a realist and know most 'top quality' coaches dont want to manage an Australia (esp dealing with our moronic FFA) unless they are making the big $$$ I also like the idea of having an Australian coach our national team it builds a bit of an identity
So leave you comments at this stage im posting this one far less angry then i was when we lost to Jordan
Peace out

Peace out I am on the fence at the moment (i was all for Granold out before the cup started). Before the cup started i said anything bellow a quarter final and he should automatically go and then from there on it is dependant on how he has the team playing. At the moment i dont think he has the team playing well enough to make cement his position but i would be a little lenient as he has not got anywhere near his preferred starting 16 available and he has not yet faced a team that has done anything but park the bus. he has got the team he has, doing just enough to get past teams that park the bus, and that should be enough to qualify for the world cup. the true test is coming up, if he can get this team to at least be competitive with teams that take the game to them then that should be the deciding factor for me.

I actually think he gets a pass for making the quarters given that our only 2 outfield players in decent leagues, Mooy and Leckie, have played less than a half between them

I’m going to double post what I just said in the old thread re: do Sydney fans like Arnie now that all of us Socceroos fans have the same goal? @Feed the Brox
I quite like Arnie’s tactic, as in his formation. Personally, I think he is being a bit hard done by, as there has been a lot of injuries, and the crux of our issue really is, and has been (as evidenced by the WCQ under Ange, as well as the WC itself under Bert), that we don’t have an out and out striker that is deadly. Yes, I think the term I heard last night was like 18 goals in 7 games under Ange, but most of them were against nufties. But still, they were goals I guess. I do feel confident under Arnie. But not under our strikers.

@coffeejackal, good post, well balanced question. I voted Arnie in. The experience that Arnie and the younger players have gained should now be built upon. Arnie has done enough, bare pass so far. He has done it with a weakened squad and let’s not forget how much this team has relied on Jedi and Timmy in recent years. So without Jedi, Timmy, Mooy, Arzani and for the most part Leckie, and with Sainsbury well off the pace this tournament, reaching the QF is a pass. And it’s a platform Arnie and his staff can build on for the WC qualifiers. But you raised another good point in your opening remarks - who else would take the job? No big name would take a three or four year job with us unless we broke the bank to get them. So why give it to a journeyman? So, Arnie in.

Should give the other team the ball and let them attack more. Tactics wrong again and doesn't start Giannou again. He has to work out how to disrupt the other teams plans and make them uncomfortable. Don't let them settle into the game like that.

Can't blame him though, Denegek and Sainsbury don't inspire great confidence at times. Milligan though has been pretty good imo, if you've got that safety its a little bit of insurance.

I really think he needs to give Giannou a start and let Maclaren run at tiring defenders.
Giannou has enough toe to work in Arnie-ball but is a better target.
The other thing missing yesterday was those diagonal crosses to the back post with the opposite FB/winger attacking it. Noticed a few times Grant wide open and waving for the cross but it never came.

Semi final is par for Asian cup. If we don't make the semi final it would be hard to justify keeping Arnold IMO.

He hasn't had the squad for that long ... I am hoping that he uses the Asian Cup as a stepping stone to improve the squad and their play. Needs to work out how to break down a team better with the cattle he has ... but I think he'll do it when he has more time and not the threat of elimination such as a Cup.

Only 2 (One is that gifted forward), in the 2014 campaign they had more (Won against Korea and Japan in qualifying) lucky we avoided that side.

Depends on the team he chooses after the Asian cup imo. We are missing a few key players due to injury and we have a few that have been playing well and haven't got a chance as yet.
Mooy, Boyle, Arzani, Dougall? back from injury. Isaias becomes eligible. Antonis, Mcgree, Chapman trial etc
Will be interesting to see if he does actaully make changes.

McGree struggles for game time in an A-League side that plays a very similar style to the Socceroos. I think he is still a little down the pecking order for a Socceroos gig, but I don't make the choices ...

Predictable tactics dont help, Uzbekistan worked us out within the first 5 minutes and apart from the conditioning advantage later in the match he did nothing to change it and we struggled to create anything clear cut apart from some long distance shots.
The rest of the teams will use this a blueprint in stopping us and its up to Arnie to find solutions otherwise it only takes an extra bit of quality to get that unconvincing defense of us worried on the counter.
Its nothing to do with having an off night, Uzbekistan worked us out and we could not find solutions.

He hardly struggles in fact he's clearly one of the best in that Melb City abit playing in an advanced role, hes a natural between the lines No.8 in the making. If does well overseas i can see him in the national team fold sooner rather than later.

+xI think we'll beat UAE but that's it. S Korea will get us. Agree and it sucks because I have refundable flights ready to go for the semi and final, but it looks like I'll just get the one game lol It could've been a better financial scenario for me if we didn't make the semi and I don't pay up, but the Socceroos are more important. I guess I'll go to the final either way, I'll be in the country after all.

+xSemi final is par for Asian cup. If we don't make the semi final it would be hard to justify keeping Arnold IMO. Sacking a guy with a long term contract is a big deal. If we had have lost to Palestine as well as Jordan then I think it was a possibility but he is a long way from being sacked now. It would take world cup qualification to go really off the rails and if we were almost at the stage where it was difficult to qualify then they may make a change but that is two years away. Sacking Arnie now is an irrelevant topic as it isn't going to happen.

I think Ange does get credit for the Asian cup however it is hard to compare because playing at home is a big advantage i dare say we might of lost the final to South Korea if we were playing that over in Seoul...
