+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xWhat will a friendly achieve a week out if we do really poorly in it? i read some 'dumb' comments on here but this one takes the cake why would playing the game we are going into a major competition be relevant prior to the major competition... fuck me why do we even play at all might as well get guys working a coles to make a team send them to Qatar it isnt like football requires, fitness, skill, tactics and organisation which all needs to be completed in a head to head setting.... Fuck me, you're stupid. Why the fuck would to play a professional game, open yourself up doubt from your own players, media and fans. Arnie hasn't even had 24 hours to work with the players, the players are most likely drained from travel, correcting sicadian rythems, and dealing with a foreign environment. Not to mention the added physical pressures on the players bodies because of the travel. Devlin said yesterday they hadn't even had a full team training run together because the final players were getting in to camp yesterday But let's put half a team out, suffering from jetlag, and recovering from injuries, that haven't even trained together because you think....... Next fifa window is March. I'm sure we'll be using it for resting. A UK camp wouldn't go astray with introducing Watts, JRB, Brook to the set up and playing available nations there.

One thing's for sure, regardless of how far we end up going in this WC we can't afford a subsequent period of inactivity until the Asian Cup qualifiers - FFA should be organising friendlies for every int'l-window, ASAP :exclamationmark:
It doesn't have to be the full-strength XI at all; it can easily be a solely ALM-based squad. Play against New Zealand, Belize or the Central African Republic..makes no diff. to me; hell, just play an 'Australia vs Australia A' match/series if worst comes to worst...

Devlin said yesterday they hadn't even had a full team training run together because the final players were getting in to camp yesterday But let's put half a team out, suffering from jetlag, and recovering from injuries, that haven't even trained together because you think....... +xPlaying more matches because Socceroos finished third in regular qualifying for WC were enough matches plus, two unfriendly friendlies against NZ were more than sufficient. I agree 100% and more. The start of our player drain to Europe has its roots in Frank Arok's 1985 Socceroos. Playing many friendlies against nations and clubs showcased our players to a wider audience and offered scouting opportunities for European Clubs to assess our players against serious opposition. This progressed to the early '00's. I believe there is a strong correlation in this area. In a modern day example young Kuol's performance against FCB must have had a bearing on his transfer. For European recruiters its the best way to make a recruitment decision.

well soccerfoo, I suppose it all depends how good your resource is and all right. I get our logistics is a major hurdle aligning our players compared to other NT's but its glaringly obvious we need some therapy and a script. Its always been said being on the ball day and night is what makes great players great, the same applies playing games as a unit.

I hear the fors and against but if it were me, I'd would have played a game - nothing like a tune up. I don't believe the mention you don't lose match fitness not playing 2wks. It varies player to player, some click no worries some lose that fine bit of touch they had till they feel the ball more again. You do lose some edge over 2wks, its all about rhythm not about learning anything more. Just keeping in sync with your team mates. If anyone misses an open goal tap in due to no practice games before France (looking at you Tilio) it will be on Arnold  I'm loling more trying to picture us being in the position of a froggy open goal :w00t:

I hear the fors and against but if it were me, I'd would have played a game - nothing like a tune up. I don't believe the mention you don't lose match fitness not playing 2wks. It varies player to player, some click no worries some lose that fine bit of touch they had till they feel the ball more again. You do lose some edge over 2wks, its all about rhythm not about learning anything more. Just keeping in sync with your team mates. If anyone misses an open goal tap in due to no practice games before France (looking at you Tilio) it will be on Arnold

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xWhat will a friendly achieve a week out if we do really poorly in it? i read some 'dumb' comments on here but this one takes the cake why would playing the game we are going into a major competition be relevant prior to the major competition... fuck me why do we even play at all might as well get guys working a coles to make a team send them to Qatar it isnt like football requires, fitness, skill, tactics and organisation which all needs to be completed in a head to head setting.... Fuck me, you're stupid. Why the fuck would to play a professional game, open yourself up doubt from your own players, media and fans. Arnie hasn't even had 24 hours to work with the players, the players are most likely drained from travel, correcting sicadian rythems, and dealing with a foreign environment. Not to mention the added physical pressures on the players bodies because of the travel. Devlin said yesterday they hadn't even had a full team training run together because the final players were getting in to camp yesterday But let's put half a team out, suffering from jetlag, and recovering from injuries, that haven't even trained together because you think.......
