Definitely up there. The standout teams/eras for me?

Ange's Roar [2010-2012]
Popa's Champions League winning Wanderers [2014]
Corica's (taken over from Arnie) Sydney [2017-2019]
Current era Mariners [2022-2024]

You could probably make a case for Merrick's Victory to be in there as well [2006-2009]

I can only speak on A-League, but I think there's obviously some great NSL sides to throw in there as well...
If I'm looking at history books alone -

Sydney City of the late 70s/early 80s
Marconi 1988-1989
Melbourne Knights 1994-1996
South Melbourne 1997-1999
Wollongong Wolves 1999-2001
Perth Glory 2001-2004 (but particularly 2002-2004)

To win three trophies in one season definitely has them at the pointy end of the discussion. Back to back champions as well.

WSW winning the ACL probably the highest single achievement but that was the season after they were premiers.

Seeing as this is by far the weakest, we have ever seen the A-league, I would say around the bottom. Plus it's not really a treble.

there is 3 others being back to back, PG/BR/SFC in the leagues short tenure to date.

Good luck to CCM, done good.

Considering they have smaller budget, smaller resources and lost a player who was really starting to dominate in Torres they have done remarkable and have to work harder than most.

For the new manager to come in and achieve this is even better.

Arguably the best coach in a season, considering the player lost at the start, the lost of Torres and the management of travel, injury and the number of lose games, clever use of subs etc.

IMO a masterclass of coaching, Ange may have had Roar but by heavens he had some of the best players in that squad the league has ever seen...

The ability to bring on some of the players used during the season with not that much first team game time, i.e. Tapp was as I said excellent coaching.

On top of that, they were also pretty entertaining to watch this season.

What they have done is unbelievable especially with all the travel involved this season. But as much as I don’t like to say it how would this side really go against Ernie mericks victory, Sydney team with brosque and bridge, jets side with Nick Carle and Durante, roarcelona with berisha and big Ange in charge. This mariners side would get bullied I think
The league is alot better in terms of professionalism and better coaching along with the sports science side of things. But the quality of players is not where it was it’s actually not even close in all fairness.
there is some great young talent coming through but every side in the a league had some top players back in the day it’s just not the case anymore.

don’t think many people will agree with me haha just my opinion

I think the worst 3 players in a team matter more than the best 3 for a teams quality.

I lived in vancouber 2017-2020 and the mls was full of really high quality individuals, but i reckon at least up until 2019 most teams were weaker than the a league even though a league budgets were much smaller. Then when the mls got more foreigners, players from youth or their second teirs replacing the weaker players mls has improved out of sight and is miles ahead of the a league.

So u mighg be right, but you should ask who are the worst roarcelona or vuck players in those eras and compare it to tapp, hall and roux

Forgetting the OP - I have to agree with your point. It really is hard to find the weak point in the top 4 teams at least. Players may have an off game but as a general rule the ALM may not have as many 'superstars' - but very few teams have squaddies filling first XI spots.

I always thought of Arzani as a weak spot. Great attacker - but once you passed him he would give up defensively. Over the last season and a half he has turned that around and he is now a menace in attack and defence.

Indeed i remember when sfc had del piero and culina plus some other decent players and were very weak. Even roarcelona had murdocca and brown, with all respect. One of their cbs was weak too, i forget their name

Had to put it somewhere as a new thread isn't needed.

The Central Coast Mariners will receive a base fee of A$1.2million for being in the group stage of the 2024/25 ACL Elite. Additional monies are available based on their eventual placings, with the champions to receive at least A$18million.

Good to see that the money for the ACL makes it far more attractive for the clubs from a financial position as well as prestigious.
