Can anyone tell me what is happening in there state or area concerning rep teams playing as a squad in preperation for nationals. Here in the ACT we have had playin squads for the past couple or so seasons and now Capital Football are looking to do away with them instead they will be treating them a training squads.

I know it might work in the bigger centres like NSW, Victoria, but in the ACT we have a population of 320,000 which is probably 3 or 4 suburbs in other states so keeping playing squads would be beneficial to players here.

The U/13's played in the U/14's competition, the U/14's palyed in the U/16's comp, the U/15's played in the U/18's comp. This was very beneficial preperation for the 14's and 15's as they played a whole season together before the nationals in Coff's, not so for the 13's as their nationals were in April and head a very limited prep but then went on and did very well in the 14's local comp.

I guess im looking for some feedback as to what the other states, territories and areas are doing because there are many disillusioned coaches and parents in Canberra ata the moment. Your feedback would be very beneficial.

Looks like the ACT is taking a backwards step.

The system you describe is how it is done in Country QLD at the direction of Football Qld and yes it is a good system.

We all play as full time squads above our age division in preparation for State titles (not nationals)

This even works well in a town of only 90,000 (Mackay) but we continually battle with the local clubs who winge about the Squads taking all of their good players, Maybe ACT has given in to the clubs as they are the only negative comments?

Thanks for your reply Silvergale. Mate somtimes i think at Capital Football the right hand doesnt know what the left hand is doing. I agree it is a backward step and that having playing squads, playing up in age groups locally i s good preperation. The clubs jumping up and down about losing there best players is an issue here also. What i dont understand though is, these clubs should be developing players for the rep squads and be proud to have 2,3,4 players that have come from their club. Instead they want to hinder the players development by having them be coached by dads with all the best itentions who unfortunately dont have the expertise of rep coaches.

I don't think the system works well at all.
Look at the results at the nationals for one thing.

Boys, dont look at the end result of the Nationals to see if it is working or not.
No matter how good your system is it all comes crashing down when the selectors get involved. I am not going to ramlbe on any further on this but look at the selections as problem

That is purpose of my post, because i feel that Capital football is going backwards, so i want to know how it works in other states or areas. Selections can be very political, im just interested in the player develpoement systems.:-k :-k :-k

I agree the selectors are the problem but the nationals are the only gauge we have. Unless you know of another one that pits state against state.

The system here

Regional development officer chooses Center of excellence coaches.

Players playing for clubs trial for NQ rep teams.

Last seasons Center of excellence players and this seasons NQ rep players trial for next seasons Centre of excellence positions in November.

Regional development officer and Center of excellence coaches select players.

Center of excellence teams play the season against club teams one year above their age group.

Center of excellence players can not play for their club.

Center of excellence teams can not compete in finals.

Center of excellence teams play 2 carnivals a season against other Center’s of excellence teams from other Queensland country areas.

Queensland country sides to compete in nationals are selected from these carnivals.

This year U14s was selected by the regional development officer and the assistant coach of the Queensland country U14’s.

The Queensland country teams trained twice a week for app 2mnths and then went to camp for 1 week then straight to the nationals.

The system has a great many problems but is still developing and hopefully will improve greatly this year.

Does this answer your questions?

No problems I also get frustrated with the systems put in place.

The models may differ but the problems always come back to ppl with vested interests being involved with no accountability.

It is the lack of accountability that has brought football down across the nation and through out its history in this country.

You would think heads would roll after the poor showing in the nationals by QC this year.

If there is a report it is not made public,

No accountability at all.

It is great if ppl post what model and problems they are having on this forum.
