What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Pitch Invasion Mars Bob Jane Farewell? SOUTH Melbourne's farewell to Bob Jane Stadium was thrown into disarray when a fan invasion forced the abandonment of its last home game at the venue.Have your say.

by the way my friend claims 15 points will be deducted from South? No, dont. Dont. I play for Gully. I dont want to see a club like south melbourne get relegated because of this. 3 points will be ok.

I was there, and these clowns that ran on the ground when SM scored, do THEIR club more harm than good. No sure of the total crowd, maybe 1000-1500, I did't count them.

how come the other pitch invasions that occur all the time in the vpl never get a mention? even other ones involving south, i dont condone what happened but you got to put into the matchday perspective, its the last ever game at bjs, the team is down 1-0 and looking out of it and score a last gasp equaliser in the 91st minute, such was the emotion of the occasion people jumped onto the field to celebrate an unlikely goal, at no stage where they trying to harm anyone, although 1 person did get in the face of the heidelberg goalie....he ended up being shoved to the ground.
how come no article last year when even more south fans invaded the pitch for vaughn covenys 100th goal? or the melbourne knights fans running onto the pitch on friday night after scoring against Oakleigh? typical beatup, if someone had been injured or violence occured different story.

As for point deductions, no other vpl ground invasion has ever been met with such a hefty penalty, and you get one of them in this league every couple of weeks, if they come down hard on south i'd be expecting a fair few clubs to be losing points throughout the year.

Interesting that SMFC have reported the game on their site as a win, and not a mention of a pitch invasion or of the game being called off early. Its an interesting article to read, as there is no official, or FFV spokesperson quote about it. I mean, for something so serious, wouldn't we hear something from them?

Guys, I wasn't there and I understand this was a farewell to BJS stadium, but there is no way you can spin this....it doesn't matter if it happens at other grounds and it doesn't matter if there was selective reporting or if there were more or less than 30 pitch invaders....it is all irrelevant.
Anything other than total condemnation of these thugs, louts or whatever you want to call them is unforgivable...the ethnicity or religion or club these people support is irrelevant...these people are NOT football supporters we want or indeed any professional sporting organisation wants in their game.
N.B This is not an attack on SMFC.

And there's actually some people who actually want to let these animals into the A-League.
F*ck off South fans - enjoy languishing in the VPL...oh, and the Singapore FA Cup (LOL)

1. Yes, that is correct. 2. You won't win it. 3. At least they don't run onto the pitch mid-game...or at all.

Edited by Joffa: 12/4/2010 06:27:43 PM Look certain individuals made a terrible mistake yesterday, they got caught up in the emotion of a late equaliser and ran on to celebrate with the players, its not the first time and wont be the last time you see that in the vpl, unfortunately they should have known better as any incident that takes place at bjs is magnified x100, if it happened at an away ground it would be a non story, they made a bad error and now they all have to live with it, to be honest i've seen some bad incidents in my time and i wouldnt even go as far as to say that it was thugish behaviour, it was an action of celebration which started 3 minutes before it was suppose to.

I have no doubt you're right that as you say "certain individuals made a terrible mistake yesterday, they got caught up in the emotion of a late equaliser and ran on to celebrate with the players" and you may also be right when you say "its not the first time and wont be the last time you see that in the vpl". However we can't really accept this type of behaviour after all, no matter how unintentional there was an incident with the opposition goalkeeper...and incidents like this do have the potential to get out of control very quickly...fortunately it didn't. However according to the article the ref did finish the game early after some of the invaders refused to leave the pitch. I can't accept your rationale that "it was an action of celebration which started 3 minutes before it was suppose to" even this may very well be what happened... unfortunately ugly scenes like this do not reflect well in our game whether they occur in Italy, England, Brazil, VPL, NSL or the A-League...and in an environment where the media is not our friend and for the sfatey of all cannot be tolerated...and if they happen elsewhere in the VPL or anywhere else they should be stamped ASAP for the benefit of all.

Fuck souths. Stay out of the A-League you are a joke. South Melbourne are famous.... In Oceania not Asia. Thank god for the A-League. I am so glad that the race obsessed NSL is gone and makes up state league. It is degrading and embarrasing to go top flight and then to play second fidle after being number one!

It is degrading and embarrasing to go top flight and then to play second fidle after being number one! you know what mate who cares, we are the most succesful club in the country and nothing can take that away from us, not morons like you, not morons who run on the field and cause trouble, South Melbourne is famous worldwide, in oceania, in asia, in brazil (maracana) in England ( man utd) and nothing will ever change that, remember it was a thank god for the A league club who injured a south player a few years ago when they chucked a flare at his head, so stop making it out that you and your type are angels, every club has bad fans, every club has good fans, that goes for here in australia and any club around the world, so get with the programme and spare us your crap, and you can shove it with your race obsessed nonsense as well, im sure you will be glad to know that the majority of those ppl that charged the field yesterday werent even greek! but does that matter? NO, because regardless of background they represent the club, not a fricken country.

I won't lie that there was no incident by a handful of sm fans - not happy about it - but grossly exaggerated allegations and coming from a football magazine is disappointing
All will be revealed on the FFV website - will post the outcome link here once detailed
It was basically one fan that came into contact with a Heidelberg Player - no striking incident at all
not justifying the kid's actions - however he has acknowledged his part and has sent a letter of apology to the FFV and the club.
Club has the so called incident on video and Pictures - all will be revealed via the correct pathways
