For the record... South Melbourne FC wrote:South Melbourne FC has completed a thorough internal investigation of the invasion of the pitch by a small number of its fans during the final minutes of the match against Heidelberg United FC on Sunday 11 April 2010. In line with its ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ regarding such incidents, the Club has identified the individuals involved and has taken swift and appropriate action. The Board has handed down appropriate penalties, with the most serious offenders being banned unconditionally for up to 5 years from attending all future South Melbourne FC home matches. In addition, all pitch invaders will be fined by the Club for their role in the incident. South Melbourne FC will continue to enforce its zero tolerance policy against any and all unacceptable conduct by any spectator which is also consistent with the provisions of its ‘Code of Conduct’ applying to its Senior and Junior Teams, as well as Junior Parents, and Members. The Board is satisfied that it has taken the appropriate steps to deal with this incident in a timely manner, and the Club is cooperating with the FFV’s investigation. I hope the club gets a lot of support for this stance.

Come to an Adelaide United/Melbourne Victory match at Hindmarsh and you will quickly see this phenomena you call "pitch invasion" is rampant throughout the code, throughout all codes, throughout the country... throughout the world!! Anyone who thinks otherwise has got their head waayyyy too far up their own arse.

Okay, here's how I saw it...
An excellent attendance for a big occasion (for the club), for the most part well behaved. The level of abuse for officials and players was no different to that you'd see at any other sporting event in Australia.
At the death SMFC equalised and around 20 nimrods jumped the fence to celebrate in the corner of the pitch. 2 or 3 stupidly opted to run across the pitch - and were greated by a chorus of abuse from behind the goal - "Get off the pitch you f*cking idiots!", etc.
One of the idiots got in the keepers face - I still don't know how the keeper resisted chinning him. He did, however, give the guy a shove, and when the guy fell he got a couple of kicks from Heidelberg players (he deserved worse).
After the game, the guy in question had his membership taken from him and was escorted from the premisses. The prick was still trying to justify his actions.
The events were tiny and insignificant compared to stuff I've seen before, both here and in Europe - never-the-less inexcusable. Everyone in the clubrooms afterwards knew this was the case - men who'd spent the last few months doing an excellent job building the club's positive image seeing the club smeared by a couple of 'supporters' was heart-breaking to see.
