Even now Football NSW has a cup comp incorporating all the teams from the NSWPl down, yet the FFA can't get their act together to get a cup comp between the A-League and the top level state leagues. Pathetic really.

If the State federations can do it with more teams and less money why can;t the FFA do it with less and more money.

I agree, should be more of a priority than a world cup bid at moment though imo.
Until today I did not realise that we have had a national knock out comp before. Here is a link;

South Melbourne made it to the semi's on two occasions I think?

It's a letter than poses more questions than it answers (common with the FFA) as it very clearly states that the FFA won't support ANY Australian side taking part in a non-Australian competition - yet within 2 months they had signed off on SMFC going into the Singapore Cup.

EDIT - It's available online on the NT Football website...

A-League franchises were invited 5 years ago - as I understand it the invitation was open and they could go if they wanted. They obviously don't feel it's worth pulling the squad together out of season - which is understandable. For SMFC, the squad is already in place and active.

thats sort of right, you can play in the singapore league if you base yourself in singapore,but FFA wont endorse it,
singapore has a chinese team, a japanese team and a french team in their league at the moment,last season they had also a korean team and a team from brunei

The FFA wouldn't allow an A-League club to play in a rival nations FA Cup. That's most likely why they denied Darwin a chance because they are planning on expanding there soon.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article South’s Singapore Cup Draw ?
SOUTH Melbourne FC will join clubs from Cambodia, Thailand and Hong Kong in the RHB Singapore Cup which kicks off later this month.

Have your say.

Correct.

If you look at the Fixture List http://www.sleague.com/Web/main.aspx?ID=fd4e1fd5-f05f-4167-ada7-d56c6bdcf8e4,,&TargetPageID= you'll see that the game against Gombak United is nominally a "home" game for South Melbourne. Its being played at Jalan Besar Stadium, which is close to the main city area of Singapore and, if I recall correctly, it has a synthetic surface. Gombak's home ground is at Jurong West, which is towards the western side of Singapore. It holds about half the number of people as Jalan Besar.

One of the other overseas teams in the Cup, Phnom Penh Crown FC, have also been allocated a "home" game at Jalan Besar, while the other 2 overseas teams are designated as "away" teams and are playing their games at the suburban home grounds of their opponents.

If SMFC make it through the first round, which is a single-game knockout, the rest of their games will be two-legged. In past years, these have all been played in Singapore (even when they have involved 2 overseas teams) and I can't find any info which suggests that this won't also be the case for the 2010 Cup.
