Is it allowed to beat Joffa to a article quote?
Quote:
World Cup football fever is set to return to Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium for the first time in 28 years when the Warriors play in an "All White" strip early next month.

Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah said the club will transform their next home game - June 6 v St George Illawarra - into a cross codes celebration by showing their support of the All Whites' 2010 World Cup campaign in South Africa.

The Simon Mannering-led Warriors will honour Ricki Herbert's side by becoming All Whites for a day, wearing their alternative white strip at the venue that was the spiritual home for New Zealand football’s first World Cup heroes in 1981-82.

A range of activities are also planned on a day designed to bring the sporting community together.

"There’s no bigger event for a single sport in the world so we want to make a fuss about it,'' Scurrah said in a press release.

''And what better way to celebrate it than to create some feeling at a ground that means so much to not only us but also to the All Whites when they qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 1982.

''The 2010 All Whites will be only days away from their first match in South Africa when we play the Dragons.

Scurrah also confirmed the Warriors will invite members of the 1982 All Whites as special guests.

''They're national sporting heroes and we want as many of them as possible to join us for the day as our guests,'' he said.

Scurrah said the Vodafone Warriors had put together a special offer of a free ticket for a child (15 and under) for every adult ticket purchased.

Good idea IMO, and good to see another code jump on the band wagon and see that cross promotion can actually be a good thing for both sides.

Any chance of something like this happening on your side of the ditch?

NRL Club actually realises that the exposure of the world cup can actually help to promote its own code.. Get out.

Good on them, shows what exposure can be achieved if your willing to use the oppertunities presented by events like the world cup.

:) aikenmike showing 'em how it's done, nice going.

In reference to the article, yeah f..king right that the other codes (especially the AFL) would do this over here. I can't see the West Coast Eagles wearing a 'complimentary/honourary' Socceroos strip anytime soon.

I hope it's articles like the one you've posted above mike which help the NZ crew understand why we have a bigger battle within our own shores than outside it at present.

I think the difference is that league is another minority sport here in NZ so wants (needs?) to leverage itself anyway possible. We have the same problem you lot have except with just the one sport (rugby) rather than the two you lot have. We have the ignorant press trying to put any success down (see the Serepisos thread) in a sport they don't understand. We have the occasional battle for stadium use...

Just thought this was a nice good news story showing how it could work in an ideal world. :)

Nah you did well... may have to pay you the "kudos" I've been mentioning for some time... just give me the night to clarify that!

Also (I'm being cheeky here) but my final word on this game comes from this bloke:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/world-cup/all-whites/3750546/Clapham-soaking-up-atmosphere

Clapham said the players were "heartbroken" initially to lose to Australia but had since focused on the positives.

Have a good weekend all! :)
