What a poor article. Firstly, who on earth is owen cole? I know Joe Cole and Ashley cole but not owen cole.
2ndly the performance in the first half wasnt great no, but it was a makeshift team and they conceded poorly to a set piece whilst still in "friendly mode". Then once they set out to play in the 2nd half there was no doubt in the final result. sure, there are weaknesses, but overall englands 1st choice team is excellent. Stupid headline for article. Neither Michael Owen, nor Owen Hargreaves played any role whatsover in this game. Can only think it's a typo and should have read "own cole". Does anyone proof read before publication because 442 had a run of bad headlines lately?

As for the performance England were lacklustre in much the same way as Australia was against New Zealand. The key thing is that teams are building towards optimal fitness and performance at the World Cup, not before it. There'll be some fairly intensive training going on in the background at the moment and I wouldn't read too much into the performances or results at this stage. Obviously you'd rather win comfortably but it's really not the end of the world if you don't.

I think this is more a case of the publishers overestimating the intelligence of the majority of their readership.
