Anyone know what teams that have had a shock World Cup success and been able to follow it up in the next one? I keep thinking about Japan and Korea who never matched there 2002 performances.

THE World Cup has always had its fair share of underdogs who have upset the bigger nations and the bookies on the biggest stage of all to the delight of neutrals everywhere.

North Korea 1966, quater finalists. Haven't qualified again until South Africa.

Upsets are one of the greatest things about the World cup for sure. Argentina beaten by Nigeria in 1994 was a good one, and the Nigerians followed it up with a fair performance in 1998, but since then...

As for the Irish, they are upset specialists... just like the Aussies.

What about Bulgaria in '94. Beat Germany in quarter final, then robbed vs Italy in the semi

Croatia in 1998. Beat Germany 3-0 in the quarters then should have beaten France in the semis if it wasn't for some fucking stupid defending and then beat a very good Netherlands side 2-1 in the 3rd/4th place playoff.

I will never consider South Korea 2002 as giant killers considering the ridiculous decisions that had go for them.
