The possible 2 game ban is basically there because most straight red card offenses are pretty bad, and therefore deserve more than just the single weeks suspension that would come if the red was because of 2 yellows. In this case, everyone who's seen the replay can see that he was basically pulling out of the tackle but the momentum took him into him. It would be very strange if he got the 2 game suspension.
But if I was the coach I'd be going to Tim and saying that I don't want to see him go to ground in a tackle at all! Even if he manages to get the ball cleanly, I don't want to see any slide tackles from Mr Cahill!

A challenge like that from behing is a red card. Had he done the same thing from the side or front, it would have been a yellow. This is not the EPL or HAL where breaking a leg gets you a yellow. Tim had no logical reason to attempt that tackle. It's something we have to get out of our game. It happened in the Youth World Cup and now this one. We can't afford to continually end matches with 10 players.

take it on the chin and learn rather than always making excuses for poor play from Aussie players

That wasnt a red card... It was a disgrace. The Germans made an amzing step in their cultural history. They recruited their first non aryan player. He concidently was mexican ;)

Chin up timmy. It was probably not a red card. The rest of the team must now lift against Ghana.

Let's look on the bright side, we are probably in a better position than Serbia. Serbia lost against Ghana and they still have Germany to play against.
If we could win against Ghana (which we did in 2 occasions) and win or even draw against Serbia we are through assuming Ghana loses to Germany, which is very likely.

I would actually not mind a draw between Serbia and Germany, that means they have to beat Ghana to secure number one spot. Otherwise they will play a second string side against Ghana and anything can happen.

if Pim continues to use these tactics...pack your bags boys. haha what? we need to beat ghana by 5 goals and beat serbia to get through? that would mean wed have a okay goal difference and 6 points. thatd be enough to win most groups. Calm down and think a little. W D L P Germany 3 0 0 9 Australia 1 1 1 4 Ghana 1 0 2 3 Serbia 0 1 2 1 So basically if we beat Ghana we will just need a draw against Serbia to go through (assuming neither Serbia or Ghana beat Germany which seems 90% likely given how good the germans are playing).

Ahahaa... Seriously? We are going to play the "ref stole our cup dreams" card again??? Really??? Sorry, tactically we were soundly beaten, technically we were soundly beaten and one bad decision is not going to change that in the slightest. We need to realise that Pim is not a good coach. He has proven it by making the most fundamental mistake you can. Trying to play a team that is not suited to the tactics you lay out. If he was serious about last nights tactics, he would have put McDonald on... Oh... Wait... He left McDonald home because Australia doesn't play two up front o_O Dickhead.

I hope there are no "#-o" decisions regarding a playmaker to replace timmy. Kewell or Culina for me, not a fan of Garcia in a central position

I'll stand by Tim to the end but lets get serious here. This is not the EPL where it's often WWF with a football. We had a wake up call against New Zealand only a couple of weeks ago when Tim & Vinie should have been red carded. No more excuses.

He will have to appeal to get the 2nd match ban lifted. (should be able to) Edited by jollyrodger: 14/6/2010 03:31:42 PM Yeah I read somewhere else that a straight red is a mandatory one match suspension, and if the review panel decides there was malice and intent a 2 match ban is imposed.

He got a yellow for a red card tackle on Bertos & a red card for a yellow card offence on Schweinsteiger :-k
Still a awful tackle by Cahill. Late and from behind, two things outlawed by FIFA

Do not measure this loss by itself; if you do, it will seem intolerable; but if you will take all human affairs into account you will find that some comfort is to be derived from them (by someone I can't remember right now)

You were warned after the NZ match about poor tackles would result in red cards at the WC. You should have listened

hellas_johnny wrote:Its only a one game suspension. And they are tossing up whether to appeal or not. If they do appeal I would really like to see them get Schweinsteiger to go with them to the hearing so that he can help put up a case for timmy if possible. The fact alone that he came out and said it wasnt a red card should help. As for the handball penalty appeal. A lot of referees would've given it as it stopped a goalscoring opportunity. If he didnt get in the way that was going in, keeper would've had to have made a good save to get it. Could be 2 game suspension. http://www.goal.com/en/news/1863/world-cup-2010/2010/06/14/1975109/australia-midfielder-tim-cahill-fears-world-cup-dream-is
