Sadly, even though I am very hopeful, Ghana will probaly dominate us...but I am hoping they do better than agaisnt Germany

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Ghana Taunt 'Weak' Aussies?
GHANA'S players appear to believe they will have a relatively simple task of knocking over 'weak' Australia and are vowing to dominate the Socceroos this weekend.

Have your say.

This is good for us. Provded we play with the same type of organisation that helped us qualify, and NOT like we did against Germany, it will frustrate the overconfident Ghanaians. They will start to question themselves and we will pounce. Then, this mentally weak and inexperienced side (compared to us anyway....) will crumble.
Yes, we played very poorly the other night, but Ghana were pretty ordinary too. I really cant see where this confidence is coming from.

Pride comes before a fall.

Saying that, we certainly had a massive fall on the weekend.

I like Ghanaians. They are the happy Africans.

This thread was pretty funny:

Pim Verbeek said he has learnt from the 4-0 loss to Germany, and against Ghana will go with Harry Kewell up front and and 10 goalies.

Well if we play anything like we did against Germany then we've got no chance.
Oh that's right, we have to win this one and we've been playing with one stiker and have no Plan B.
Oh and I loved those Ghanian Football Forums. They are brilliant.

I'd like to see a bit of spirit from the Aussies in the media. How about: "ok Ghana, you think you so great, come and get us we'll be ready, you don't impress us in the slightest."

As opposed to "Ghana are a young side with some talented players and lots of pace, and we really have a job ahead of us if we are going to beat them."

Please Lucas none of that nonsense this time.

I've been taking everything in the last few days - trying to avoid an over emotional Fozzie like reaction to Monday morning's performance. I'll admit now that I am a glass half full kind of guy, but I think I may just have worked out what Pim is up to.

He told Kennedy and Bresc they were not good enough to be on the park against Germany. He's told Kewell he needs to prove he can play 90 minutes and that he's worth the risk.

Is he (trying to) pull a Hiddink?

Hiddink started Harry on the bench against Uruguay in the decisive home leg in 2005, brought him on and he changed the game. He started Cahill on the bench against Japan in 2006, brought him on and he changed the game.

Now, given (most of our logical supporters) never expected us to beat, or even draw, against Germany - I'm assuming Pim figured as much and was hoping for damage limitation with his 6 man midfield.

Is it Pim's plan that by getting these guys riled up for not being on the field in Durban, letting them watch helplessly as Germany tore their team mates apart they would then play against Ghana with more than just the desire to win (which should always be there when you pull on the Green & Gold (or blue Best & Less number)) but the desire to prove the manager wrong?

Let's hope so. And let's hope Ghana come in over confident and we spank them.

Wow, you've definately put a lot of thought into this.
My only critique is that i don't think Pim is the kind of coach (an interpersonal one) to pull something like that. It is characteristic of a guy like Hiddink, but for Pim I'm not so sure.
Also he hasn't really done anything like this in the past, maybe he would have tried it with Macdonald if it was a strategy of his?

Indeed I have - and maybe I've put too much thought in to it and I'm giving Pim too much credit....

Or maybe he's been trying this with Scott McDonald but it just didn't get the reaction from him.

Either way, I'm going to hope this was all part of Pim's grand plan, get behind our boys and pray we come out and beat Ghana and Serbia so we get to play England in the round of 16.

Let Ghana talk up their chances and bag the Australians all they like. Big egos and trash talking really just puts you in a false sense of security. We have seen this before by many teams and then they come out and get beaten and then cry over something else.

I read a lot of this prior to the German match and a lot of you went "let them think that" "pride before the fall" "we will show them". The reality is that they are not bluffing. Germany's aim was to HUMILIATE their opponents. Their plan started well against Australia. Ghana came from a win and say they see Australia as an easy victory. It's not a bluff. We can hope and support the Socceroos but I think that calling other teams arrogant is simply arrogant of us. It's up to the Socceroos to stand up and perform. Not Lucas Neill talk etc... Australia has a lot to prove, not the other way around.

Did you watch the game against Serbia. Ordinary. Both of them. Not saying that we were any better. But they were gifted the game with a send off and one of the stupidest (if that is a word) handballs ever.
Not being complacent, but lets hope that this confidence means that the Ghanaians will be.

these ghanaian players obviously have short memories, 1-0 loss to the socceroos in sydney and that was a socceroos lineup with the likes of adam and joel griffiths, beauchamp, spiranovic, jedinak, holland, troisi and sterjovski

and then i think a 1-1 draw in london the year b4 with again a depleted socceroos outfit!

i would line up with
schwarzer
Wilkshire, beauchamp, neill, carney
emerton, culina, jedinak, bresciano, kewell
kennedy

i sincerley hope you aren't implying they try a 4-5-1 formation!

if anything, they must stick with their *shudders* 4-2-3-1 that they have gotten used to, or otherwise revert to a 4-3-3

It does seem like that but we certainly didn't give any of it back either... so lets give it to em. Lets play how like a team, not to put our heads down like we did so easily against germany.

We've played as underdogs and have done well with that tag, lets do it again. Ghana aren't as strong as germany, maybe just as fast but we'll just have to work on moving forward.

We're not the worse team in the world cup, that's for damn sure!
