I don't believe that one bit! Maybe if you said another australian like vidmar? hahah. I really disliked the Farina and Graham Arnold era!!! This is true, but the simple statement was that Farina could have done as good a job, if not better than Verbeek, and I for one completely agree. Verbeek has been just that bad.

Farina and Arnie are limited managers, but so's Pim.

Edited by seriously: 16/6/2010 08:46:36 PM First senseible thing I've seen you post in a long time. There's no point in qualifying for the world cup and then getting obliterated. We struggled to qualify, even if the qualificaiton tables don't show that, we really didn't do it well at all. Nobody remembers teams for just qualifying for the world cup. Nobody's going to remember that Trinidad & Tobago qualified for 06 in a decade's time. We need to go to a world cup with a minimum expectation of getting out of the group. Our qualification path is a lot easier than it used to be. Where it took a coach of massive reputation like Hiddink to get us to the world cup previously, negotiating our path past an arguably superior south american side. Now, we're playing teams that are unlikely to ever qualify for the world cup and getting there off the back of that. We should be expecting better. With you on that one Afro 100%

You'd seriously rather the Australian side watching from home!? Mental... In answer to the OP - Yes he has... The brief was Asian Cup and World Cup - seem's pretty successful in that regard...

I ticked yes, becauase the qualification process was not easy and he used the troops we had well and has brought a number of young blokes through that we'll use for the Asian Cup next year and the next lot of WC qualifiers.
But yes, his coaching performance before, during and after the Germany game has been shit. Maybe he is like a cricketer who scores centuries in Shield cricket easily but can't quite make it at Test cricket level.

Wasn't a part of the brief also to get us playing better quality football? I think we have lost some of the characteristics that made everyone fall in love with the socceroos back in 06 (such as the confidence in ability and positive outlooks on games)

I would rather not have made it to the World Cup at all if we were going to be made fools of in front of the entire world like we have been.

He did what he was supposed to.
If I remeber his brief was to qualify for the Asian Cup and the World Cup.

The results have been there but the performance's haven't. During Pim's time in charge I can only remember 1 performance of a high quality, and that was the friendly against Ireland. Other than that we've played dour, negative football that even George Graham would've been ashamed of.

He deserves some credit, yes he stuffed up the other night, but he has a right to redeem himself and at least we are playing in those tournaments.

He has done exactly what he was paid to do with squads that are very thin and weaker than the first half of the decade.

Terry butcher couldve coached the socceroos and got them to the Asian and World cup. Alot of the success comes down to the experience of the player group.

He has good results, but for the coin hes earning we should be expecting more on field quality. Verbeek has just relied on the individual quality of our players to construct almost faultless results (aside from monday) but he really hasnt built a team (even tho this XI has been together for years).

I don't think so. I think Farina could of qualified for both tournaments...qualification to both should have been the minimum requirement.
