2022 will only be a battle between USA and Austalia if we can convince the other Asian nations to pull out and back us. World Cup hosting is all politics, so think of it as a number of political parties (confederations) vying for election. We need our party (confederation) to be behind us. We may be able to survive without them, as I think we will get a lot of European votes, but Jack Warner will probably back the US bid. And he has lots of friends that will vote with him. I think that if we can be the only Asian bidder, we will win it at a canter.


But I agree with the rest of what you have said. A Qatar WC would be stupid.

I'm sorry, but they have the population of Adelaide. Just over 1 million. We have already seen a fair few empty stadiums in South Africa, and they have a population of 50,000,000.

It would just be ludicrous to have a World Cup staged in Qatar.

I'm sure Qatar would build 32 indoor training facilities - what else are they going to do with their money (other than import and naturalise more African kids)?

What about training facilities?? They may be able to cool down the stadia, but are they also going to pay to add this technology to 32 training stadiums?? Do Qatar even have 32 stadiums suitable for training?? Do Qatar even have enough stadiums to stage the world cup?? I know most nations dont (us included), and need to build them, but what will they do with them after the cup?? Let them sit there for another 3000 yrs until they host another cup?? Fifa will NOT give the cup to Qatar. They are embarrassed enough that South Africa are the only hosting nation to go out at the group stage. Not only will Qatar go out at the group stage, they will make the result between Portugal and Nth Korea look like a tight encounter. Stop wasting everyones time and Qatari money and get behind a unified Asian bid. Otherwise it will go to the US again.

1. 27 degrees is too hot? It was consistently over 30 degrees in Germany for day matches.
2. Humidity? Japan-Korea 2002 was humid - part and parcel of a different location.
3. Nothing's going to overcome heat and humidity? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ski_Dubai If they can keep snow frozen, pretty sure the technology is there to make air conditioned stadia possible. For the FIFA executives, it's just a case of 'do we really want to suffer the extreme heat?'

Doesn't matter what fancy technology you have, nothing's going to overcome 35 degree temps & high humidity. I hear they are going to use giant fans circulating water cooled air (Evaporative air conditioner style), bringing down temps to 27 degrees at pitch level. Still too hot in any case and water cooled air is only going to add to the humidity issue. Can't see Qatar 2022 being viable IMO.
