No surprises there. He had an immense tournament. Every time he had the ball he looked like scoring. I can't wait to see him back out there for Atletico Madrid this year.

That's if he's playing for Atletico. A lot of clubs are interested and he said he'd go if it was the right move.

Lots of clubs are interested, yes. But Atletico will want top dollar for him and will want to hold on to him. They can't stand to lose Aguero AND Forlan this summer...

afromanGT wrote:Forlan, Muller>>>Sneijder>>Stekelenburg>>>The german squad>>>>>>>>>>>>>everyone else, I think you mean, chicko. That's pretty much what I said. Forlan and Muller were easily better then everyone else. Sneijder was good but not really close to Muller and Forlan in my opinion. He was in the second teir of good players with Robben, Xabi Alonso, Iniesta, Messi, Ozil, and Lahm in my opinion.

Sneijder was clearly the best player of the tournement in my opinion. Forlan and Muller were great also with a special mention for Puyol.

Probably a decent choice, I personally would have gone with:
1. Sneijder 2. Forlan 3. Oezil 4. Mueller 5. Villa (despite a shocking final)

Deserves it imo. He's the reason Uruguay did as well as they did and he was quite brilliant. That volley against Germany the best of his 5 goals by far.

Well deserved and I've been tipping him the past week to win it. Was a standout for Uruguay every game whereas guys like Sneijder disappeared for long periods.

Congratulations to Forlan right choice as he managed to lift an avarege side like Uruguay ( no disrespect ) and give them a chance to almost get to the finals. Sad for XAVI he was outstanding but again he was playing with alot of MESSIS in his side and it was hard to single him out. Villa and Muller third choice for me, if Muller played V Spain who knows. Ozil had great tournament only when Germany played well, when Germany needed something extra could not find him, even Croos the sub in those situations played better. For me list is like this:
1/Forlan 2/Xavi 3/Villa 3/Muller 4/Snaider

Happy with the decision. Great tournament by Forlan. Took Uruguay further than most people expected.

Sneidjer scored as many goals in as many games (more goals if u discount the 3rd place play off like i do) from midfield and close to single handedly get his team into the final. He did this from a midfield position as opposed to striker. His passing was world class and the only match he was down on form was the final.

Forlan's a great player and deserves the award. He was one of the few who could master the Jabalani ball at free kicks and shots on goal.
I still remember how relieved I was when he was injured and didn't play against the Socceroos in the 2005 WC Qualifiers. If he had played, we mightn't have got to Germany 06.

Weren't we lucky that Forlan didn't play in the final qualifying game in Sydney back in 2005. I believe he was injured then.

Muller has well and truely announced himself. If he has a similar run to Klose with form in WC's, then I can see him maybe getting ahead of Ronaldo or similar to Klose himself. 5 shots on target.... 5 goals!!!

Although Forlan looked dangerous pretty well every time he had the ball, Sneijder did more overall. Also think Ozil made Muller look good.

He was the reason we made it to the semi final's. Actually, technically Suarez's hand of god, or Abreu's penalty were, but you get what I mean. :P
Deserves this award, and if he hadn't hit the crossbar with the last kick of the game against Germany, could of won the Golden Ball too. Still, an amazing achievment.

Forlan made the difference for Uruguay. While Sneijder had a good tournament, he wasn't the stand-out in his side and I think that was the difference between the two when the award was decided.
Forlan played excellent football, looked like scoring every time he had the ball and was always dangerous. The only other player in the tournament to do that was Arjen Robben, but he never managed to finish the job.
