NSW Premier League Grand Final Preview
26.08.10 08:15

Blacktown City FC and Bonnyrigg White Eagles go into battle for NSW Premier League supremacy this Sunday at Parramatta Stadium where the victors will take the title of Minor Premiers for 2010.

With these sides finishing first and second on the League ladder following the regular season, there could not have been a better scripted finale.

Aytek Genc’s Blacktown City FC enter the final coming off a weekend with no ‘serious’ football, even though the side has been working hard on the training fields in anticipation of Sunday’s final. Positive news for Blacktown City has been the return to full fitness of Tolgay Ozbey, the striker missed the recent 4-0 defeat of Bonnyrigg due to a hamstring injury, though has shown he is ready and up for the grand final match.

Genc will have captain Luke Roodenburg calling the shots out of midfield; the club captain has been instrumental in organising his teammates on the field, especially with the younger players in the group, and is entering his fifth grand final.

In the attacking third, Joel Chianese will have a licence to attack, with target man Tolgay Ozbey vital to his side’s chances of success. Ozbey finished the regular season as top goalscorer, and Blacktown City FC supporters will be hoping the marksman has a couple of goals to come in Sunday’s grand final.

Bonnyrigg White Eagles enter the grand final full of confidence following a rather impressive showing against Sydney United last weekend. Despite falling a goal behind after only 7’ minutes, and struggling to find their feet in the opening 15’ minutes, Brian Brown’s men turned it all around from the 20’ minute onwards, scoring three unanswered goals and putting together a very well polished performance. Milorad Simonovic’s marshalling in-front of the defensive line has the side in good order, as does the pace and ball skills of Jamie McMaster, Daniel Severino and Nathan Elasi going forward. Striker Brad Boardman will be the ‘go to’ man in the front-line, with the quick movement of Elasi and McMaster expected to cause Blacktown City some cause for concern.

Blacktown City FC hold a 2-1 head-to-head lead against the White Eagles from the three times these two teams have met in 2010. The two regular season encounters produced 2-0 victories in both matches for the home-side, meanwhile the recent Major semi-final showdown provided victory to Blacktown City FC 4-0.

In what is expected to be a fantastic afternoon of football at the very impressive Parramatta Stadium venue, supporters of both teams – and the neutrals – do get out there to see some fireworks on Sunday.

In the Grade-20 grand final, Sydney United play host to Blacktown City FC, with the latter hoping to make a winning start for the Blacktown club in this exciting encounter on grand final day, with kick-off set for 12:30 pm.

While at 10am the South Coast Wolves take on Sutherland Sharks in the battle for the Grade 18’s Grand Final.

A-League side Sydney FC have utilised the pitch with one of their AFC Champions League games against Persik Kediri while in February 2010 during the 2009-2010 season, the Sky Blues played out a thrilling 3-2 victory over Perth Glory.

The venue has played host to many other sporting codes with Baseball, Rugby Union and of course Rugby League with it being the home base for NRL side the Parramatta Eels.

Once known as Cumberland Oval, the stadium itself can hold a maximum capacity of 20,741.

You can't fail at a revolution. A revolution is a Movement of 360 degrees, meaning you start and finish in the exact same spot. If you were crap to begin with and are crap now, then you have completed a revolution.=p~

Great Final.

BWE were really going at it in the last 10 minutes. Exciting finish.

I was (pleasantly) suprised with the amount of Blacktown fans there were, but the vast majority will still BWE fans.

Better team won.

NSW Premier League Finals Grand Final review

Blacktown City FC have been crowned the 2010 NSW Premier League Championship following a 1-0 victory in the grand-final at Parramatta Stadium on Sunday.

Played at a frantic pace, the team from Blacktown clinched the trophy courtesy of Tolgay Ozbey’s 77’ minute penalty following an open free-flowing game.

Blacktown City carved out the better openings in the first-half with Tyler Simpson denied three headers in the space of 20’’ seconds – denied firstly by the post, then a tremendous reflex save by Phillip Zabaks, before the Blacktown player headed his final attempt wide.

Bonnyrigg’s best chances arrived via set-pieces, with Daniel Severino a constant menace for Blacktown, delivering some perfect centres into the penalty-area – all to no avail though for the White Eagles.

The second-half brought out a much hungrier Bonnyrigg, and it was the White Eagles to carve out early openings. Jamie McMaster and Brad Boardman were both through on goal, though on both occasions, the referee and linesman respectively thwarted Bonnyrigg’s hopes.

McMaster nearly caught Blacktown City goalkeeper Brody Crane off guard with his audacious long-range half-volley, though the final effort finished inches over the crossbar.

Blacktown City found their goal in the 77’ minute after Ante Deur was brought down inside the penalty-area by Graeme Forbes. Forbes, already booked, was shown a straight red card for his troubles, leaving Tolgay Ozbey with the chance to hit his side into the lead.

The League’s top goalscorer made no mistake with his spot-kick, blasting past Zabaks – who had an exceptional match in goal for Bonnyrigg – to send Blacktown City on their way to victory.

The closing stages provided Bonnyrigg with two clear goalscoring chances, again via the set-piece, though neither attempt proved successful. Severino and Wade Oostendorp combined on both occasions, though it wasn’t meant to be for Bonnyrigg as Luke Roodenburg & Co. celebrated a fine Blacktown City triumph.

In the Grade-20 division, Blacktown City FC made it a winning start on grand-final day with an extra-time 4-2 defeat of Sydney United. Locked at 2-2 after 90’ minutes, Blacktown City found goals courtesy of Dean Caletti and Bruno Pivato to seal the 4-2 win, and defeat last season’s champions.

While finally in the Grade 18’s Sutherland Sharks defeated the South Coast Wolves 2-1 with the Shire side scoring two goals through Michael Stuart and Aaron Daly while the Wolves had Haydyn Lloyd scoring their only goal of the game.

You can read all the match reports in the NSW PL website.
