i don't really know what to think of this. he's playing well in the scottish league in a top team. maybe a move to the premier league would be good at some stage but Newcastle at the moment? maybe next season if they stay up but he'd be competing with a host of big name strikers including michael owen, obafemi martins, alan smith, mark viduka, etc. there's no doubting the size of the club but my money is on this being a viscious rumour.
any thoughts.. ? :?

We'll have to see if Newcastle can stay out of the drop first.

maybe next season

Depends on what the next Newcastle coach will think of him (it's not like Keegan's going to keep his job).

Smith could play in midfield, Viduka's hardly a threat to anyone at the moment and Owen's very prone to injury.

yeh will be interesting to see if keegan stays or not. wouldn't mind shearer getting a go at it. that might give them a lift. not too sure but they're a much better team than where they are placed currently and they have money to buy but will need better results before they attract any more world class players.(owen was, once upon a time) i still can't see him signing unless the other strikers leave which is possible. owen could be injured or transferred, who knows with the duke at the moment and good luck to him. i don't rate smith too highly as a goalscorer but he does work hard so midfield might be good for him. i rate martins highly. a few things would have to fall into place before i see the move happening. will have to wait and see..

For the socceroo's sake, I hope he doesn't go anywhere. When players go to new clubs, it creates new problems, especially because we will need him for the next round of qualifying.

that's true. we need our players playing regularly and everything's going very well for him at celtic this year. thing's could hardly be going better for him playing for the club he supported so why change it.

Well the next logical step for him if he keeps playing so well is to a mid-table/struggling Premier League team where he could get the exposer he needs in the Premier League to move up the ladder so to speak. If he went to Wigan or Reading [if they stay in the Premiership] next season, he would have a good chance of playing most of their games. I think doing that would be a great platform to Aston Villa or say Everton.

However, I do think that staying at Celtic for another season would be a good idea. In addition to starting in a high quality league, it will probably be the only chance he has to win anything as a footballer in terms of championships, so he may as well enjoy it while it lasts.

Hes relatively new at celtic anyway so i dont think hes get bored there or anything. I know kevin keegan really wants him but i dont think it would be the right move. Hes right up there with most goals in all competitions, lol, its cristiano ronaldo with 31, then scott mcdonald with 25.

A move to Newcastle would be terrible. He would have to fight for his spot as mentioned in a new system. He'd also be out of Europe most likely and theres almost no chance of champions league (next year is zero chance). Hes flying at Celtic, why on earth would he go to a club that gives him less of an opportunity? The only upside would be stonger competition.

Our forwards next year:

Viduka - will play in reserves.

MArtins - Is he still even alive? :p

Owen - He is due another long injury

Smith - Is a midfielder the sooner Keegan figures out the better.

Also yes Keegan will be their next year he has inherited a crap squad. Wait till he builds his own squad. Look for huge team changes.
