Why is this Brazil 2014 so much better than S. Africa 2010 so far?

Is it the ball? The pitches? The absence of the drowning vuvezelas? Only two nights in and nobody could argue we haven't seen some great attacking football, crazy results and great goals, albeit some dodgy refereeing.

Stark contrast to the opening days of the 2010 world cup where most teams seemed to play pragmatic, defensive football.

Two things.

The ball and the groups are seeded based on ranking, not reputation. Throwing up some fair, but juicy group stage matches.

The ball is a factor. Everyone was so defensive in 2010 because keepers couldn't judge the flight of the ball, so parking the ball to close down chances early was essential.

This.

Vuvuzela's also. I 've heard a couple in a couple games now, but a few every now and then is nothing compared to 40,000+ plus for 90 minutes.

Yeah I can't imagine it was easy for teammates to communicate with each other like that. Perhaps it discouraged players from making runs at times etc.

another factor seems to be the brazilian spectators enhance the atmosphere, the brazilians in the crowd often start singing their owns songs like at about minute 81 in the italy/england match

The 2006 World Cup was good too. If you play it in Europe or Sth America it will be a good World Cup.

Heres another reason:

How we've been able to watch some of the matches in Australia with the night matches in the Americas on first thing in the morning over here :-"

Too bad they know people in SE Asia region have actually been watching games at a waking hour and they've put the remaining socceroos matches on at 2am

Better to have matches at 2am, cos the rest of us who work at 8am won't miss the games.

For those that where at the games, the vuvezelas weren't that bad really. You can blame FIFA's sound guys for how horrible it sounded on TV.

Attacking football. Teams have gone from not wanting to lose the first match and being happy with a draw to wanting to smash out a good result straight off the bat.

I think part of it is that very few teams actually have any confidence at all in their defence, so they're forced to attack to make up for it.

I enjoyed South Africa.

I'm really enjoying Brazil.

For me, the WC is decidedly superior to club football, which is dominated by money.

The atmosphere in the stadiums especially when the Sthn American teams are playing is incredible. The fans are creating a real passionate football environment. When they are going off its crazy stuff, it rubs off on the players. Having Argentina fans 'take over' the holiest football shrine in the world, the Maracana would have been a real buzz for them. The football has been attacking and the superstars are producing the goods. Can't ask for any more.
