Early rough prediction for season ahead - haven't looked into fixturing much except for who hosts 2 derbies:

Adelaide - 12k (up) no Adelaide oval game, but 2 games vs victory, plus bigger membership base.
Sydney - 14k (down) 1 derby, can't see it maintaining / increasing unless a big marquee is signed.
Wanderers - 23k (massive up) 70% capacity at new stadium - in line with parra + 2 X 65,000 for derbies. Reasonable I believe
Victory - 24k (up) 2 derbies + likely improvement
Brisbane - 13k (same) no reason at this stage to go either way
City - 11k (same) likely bigger membership base however 1 derby only. Need a big marquee to boost crowds.
Newcastle - 11k (up) new owner, only indicators to increase
Perth - 12k (massive up) stability, home grown talent, form at end of season, starting with high expectations
Mariners - 6k (down) worried about them, no reason to increase... Likely membership drop
Wellington - 10k (up) should increase, generally bigger crowds when play at one off venues across NZ. Chances are will finish higher on the ladder this year with a better squad.

136k total, meaning 13,600 round average which would represent the 2nd biggest overall and a big jump on PY.

Of course, with a big marquee or two signed by Sydney + City in particular and these should increase a fair bit more.

Both individual clubs should increase by 2-3k plus other clubs from spillage effects. Could be the most ever! Fingers crossed

I think with proper marketing it can definitely increase compared to the last few seasons. The derby will add a decent chunk at the start.

Marquees will help.

But more importantly, my mind is already jumping to the future (2017-18). If the FFA can negotiate the right kind of broadcast deal, we might just see our highest average then. I think this season will be like a bridge to the future of our game. I'm just praying they don't fark it up.

Only negative has been Brisbane so far. Therefore should see some good increases. Hopefully SFC and Victory can bring some marquees to the table which would be a bonus.

Well the 'second marquee' rule came in very late last season. And now they essentially have the ability to have 3 marquees, pending the 3rd meets certain criteria.

Would be good to see the clubs sign some quality players.

This is just another reason why the next broadcast deal is so important. If FFA can get close to double for the rights, that might help even further when it comes to funding the clubs, so then maybe the owners will splurge a little more on marquees. Maybe...

I see BR bettering last year IF the club get the fans onside prior to the season kicking off eg. (memberhips, engagement)

Last season we averaged 13441 over 13 games in Brisbane (13921 counting the semi-final). Considering the shambles the club was in leading into that season, i'd say those numbers stack up pretty good. We definitely have our peaks and troughs though, the kids promotion over the school holidays for the game against Perth (i think?) worked pretty good as seen below.

BR vs CCM - 14471
BR vs ADE - 10707
BR vs PER - 11748

Joffa, love your work!

I'm not sure who the rest of the panel are for compiling these attendance figures, but it makes for compelling, objective reading.

It seems that Sydney, Jets and Brisbane often draw big crowds, but because of massive stadia, they look smaller than one would expect.

Cahill + WSW Spotless + ANZ derbies =

Potentially a big increase. With a big of luck, might be able to get to 14k this season.

Add to that the Adelaide potential signings. Just need Sydney FC and Brisbane to get there acts together. Hopefully this week sorts the later out. However, as Gough said, "Nothing will save Sydney FC", but God does work in mysterious ways.

I genuinely believe clubs like Sydney FC and Brisbane hold back crowd numbers by insisting on playing in oversized stadiums. Sydney fc should only play 4 - 6 games a year at SFS. Derbies and big blue + any potential marque games.

I see their first game against MC has been moved to ANZ. I hope thats not because they think they can get a better crowd now that Tim Cahill is there?

This short term thinking is holding back our game. Look at the bulldogs RL team. They are now playing regular games at Bellmore Sports ground. Even though they could get more going to ANZ. And they are creating a connection to their fans through the amazing atmosphere they experience.

I cant speak for Brisbane as i dot know the area well enough to offer an alternative to Suncorp (even though ballymore has been used successfully for other codes) but SFC have no excuse.

Awhile ago they were complaining that talk of a new Sutherland / Cronulla team would be taking fron their fan base. Then why dont you fucking play where your fans 'supposedly' exist. There are several perfectly usable stadiums for them to use.

Belmore
Kogarah
Shark park

They dont have to play all their games there but 1 or 2 dont hurt. If they do want to represent all of sydney (like they say they do) they would pick an alternative venue for the more standard games. You take out their derby games and their numbers fit very reasonably with any of these alternative stadiums.

And it would encourage people to actually go to the big games at the bigger stadium when played there. It wouldnt be a run of the mill event, but the bigger marquee games.

Do victory have 5 games again at etihad this season?

If so, then the Essien signing could have a major impact on their attendance average

Alrighty then, first round attendance predictions:

Roar vs victory - 14k
Phoenix - City - 9k
WSW - Sydney FC - 67k
Perth - CCM - 12k
Jets - Adelaide - 10k

The big variables are the derby and the Roar who haven't got their shit together, but really should be getting a solid attendance given their on field quality and playing victory who traditionally draw a larger crowd in brisbane.

Interestingly we could go close to the record round attendance if that derby is as high as people are saying it will be

I think you're being a tad generous with some but generally agree with what you've noted down.

Roar Victory 12k
Nix City 7k
WSW Sydney 66k
Perth Mariners 10k
Jets United 10k (if they announce a coach)

I think it will be something like this:

Roar - Victory 13.5k
Nix - City  7k
WSW - Sydney  62k
Perth  Mariners  11k
Jets  United  10.5k

Total  =  104k

That would still be a record I believe by some margin. Anything over 100k would be a great result, but also importantly would be if all 4 of the other games got good crowds individually as well. 5 figures for all other matches other than Nix and City which no doubt will pull an NPL type crowd on a grand final appearance.

Nix will be without Barbarouses and City without Cahill due to the international window, can't see any other reason for casual Nix fans to turn up. Even big games they can't get over 10.

I think expectations for R1 attendances are too optimistic:

Roar Victory 12,000
Nix City 8,000
WSW Sydney 60-70,000
Perth Mariners 9,000
Jets United 8,000

Total = 96-106,000

Roar need to pull something out of the bag marketing wise, I know they're still hoping for around 18k but that doesn't look remotely possible at this stage. All the other crowds will be okay but nothing to write home about. The only question mark is how big the derby will go?

Yeah my 11k if anything is a conservative figure. But it is Perth and you just never know, however I expect them to hit 11k without too much difficulty.

The main concern is Phoenix and Roar home games. Even the Jets were looking good but are now falling into the lower category considering their stupid coach debacle which will impact them financially now due to lower gate takings.

106,082 in Round 2 Oct 2014 is the record I think.
