Seems one of the drawing points for McGree was that Okon would be with him at Club Brugge in the not to distant future - someone let the cat out of the bag presumably. Seems Okon's trip to Club Brugge post A-League season may have been more than just Mariners business! The rumour suggests he has an assistants gig lined up.

Is this a joke?!
Surely not? If so Okon is a prick... I've never rated him!

IF this is true it would a shit move to travel on supposedly club business and use that time to line up a job for himself. It would also leave the Mariners in trouble, having to find a new coach with pre-season already starting. I really hope this is a wrong rumour.

Another possible explanation is that Okon helped facilitate the deal, having an association with McGree through his coaching, and Club Brugge through his playing days.

In fact, several recent Australians that have been signed to Brugge were coached by Okon in the Young Socceroos.

It's just an educated guess, but it makes a lot of sense under this presumed context.

McGree never had an association with Okon as he was never part of the young socceroos squads, maybe Okon gave them a word about him but mostly they would do their dilgence and scout these players
