Locals to tackle Knights

JULIUS ROSS | January 22, 2011 12.01am

GRADUATES and current members from the Tasmanian Institute of Sport National Training Centre program have been given the opportunity to test their mettle against Melbourne Knights tomorrow.

Dean May's TIS team confronts Glenorchy Knights reserves today at 3.30pm at KGV Park as a curtain-raiser to the showpiece match between Melbourne Knights and Glenorchy seniors which kicks off at 6pm.

A number of players from the program will then be handed spots in a "select" side which will combine Glenorchy Knights senior players and TIS players, to face the Premier League club on Sunday at 4pm.

May and Glenorchy Knights coach Nick Harrison will liaise after today's matches to name the side, but the squad is likely to consist of five to six ex-TIS players and current players Declan and Hugh Foley and seven to eight Glenorchy players.

May is likely to play a squad of 13 current TIS players for the majority of today's match, with ex-TIS players Cameron Sweeney, Cameron Williams, Alex Nandan, Jamie De Smit and Hugo Bladel appearing in preparation for Sunday's hit-out.

"This is a great opportunity to showcase the talented youth we do have in Tasmania," May said.
