@cardiff10 - not often I would agree with a jets fan :;): but the Jets have been the most troublesome team for us this year for their ability to shut us down. We do have the ability to gout wide with Franjic and Broich, but 9 times out of 10 we will come back inside again. This has obviously been drilled into the players as rarely will you see a cross from out wide unles it is a Broich shot at goal ;]

Newcastle Jets were a prime example of how to stop the Roar in all three matches they played against us this season. In particular, the last 2 matches we played them in, they had to struggle to get a draw. Zadkovich came extremely close to winning us the game late in the match in the 3rd encounter. You just have to have every player on the park willing to win the ball back as soon as they lose it, really press them and not give them space or time on the ball. A lot of teams just sit back and try to defend deep, try to let the Roar pass the ball around and then win it once it's near the box. Those teams get destroyed by the Roar, and that's the reason they won the league. If the Jets hadn't had a dozen injuries plus a few suspensions at the end of the season, I'd be very willing to tip a Roar vs Jets grand final.

The text at the bottom of the article offers a pretty big clue: "This article appeared in the February 2011 issue of FourFourTwo magazine. To buy back copies of this issue call 03-8317-8121 with a credit card to hand."

You know, we can all see how Brisbane play, many of us enjoy the pressing and the short passing, as well as the lovely combinations.
The real question is - what is it about ANGE that allows him to get his players to do this? Many other coaches know that this method of play will give results. There's something Ange is doing to motivate or instruct his players that others aren't.

Absolutely agree and either Van Egmond doesn't know what Ange is doing or he won't say.

guys stop slating him over generalisations in the article. its a really well written article and he makes some good points.
the argument about who was better between this years roar side and the victory side previously will rage on but i think these two sides stand alone above the others on this: if the season had gone to 40 games or 50 games then both of these teams would still have won the league in those seasons. huge credit to both teams!

I can only hope that this article was written a few weeks back - like before Brisbane in fact already WON the A-League (you pillock!) Will they win the finals series? Who knows? So I will give the writer the benefit of the doubt - and hope that he couldn't possibly be referring to winning the next 4 weeks as being "winning the A-League" now could he?

This comparison thing between Melbourne of 06/07 and Brisbane is getting old. The standard of the A-League has improved dramatically since then and to imply that the current Brisbane team doesn't possess individual brilliance is a bit naive. Solorzano, Broich and Henrique would easily make the first team sheet of any team in the a-leagues short history.

Only a tool would mention everyone in the team including the running and passing around in circles Murdicca and not one mention Broich, the most influencial player in the Roar team, who initiates proper attacking play bringing other players in the game.

I read through this article and Thomas Broich wasn't mentioned once. Did you miss something Gary? Personally I rate Broich above Fred.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo blog What Makes Brisbane Roar??
Ask any footballer, "How do you want to play?" They will respond, "Like Barcelona." The issue is sometimes you don't have the cattle to play like Barcelona.
Brisbane Roar finished last season second ...

Have your say.
