Melbourne Victory FC to talk to Bosko Gjurovski about coaching vacancy .
Wednesday, 16 March 2011 00:37 Erik Bickford News - International

Despite shooting down coaching rumors since he assisted Nagoya Grampus in winning their much awaited second J-League title, Macedonian coach Bosko Gjurovski is still being pursued as the top coaching candidate to take over the Melbourne Victory Football Club in the Australian A-League.

The position was vacated when Melbourne fired its foundation coach Ernest Merrick only days after their opening Asian Champions League group game away to Japanese giants Gamba Osaka.

Gjurovski' management said that the Nagoya assistant is scheduled to speak with A-league club board officials via telephone to relay his interest in applying for a senior coaching role.

"Bosko is keen on continuing his work in Nagoya alongside senior team coach Dragan Stojković, he has had many offers over the past seasons to secure his own senior coaching role, however he will be very selective with which club that is." A management statement said.

The statement went on to further state "Bosko will have a brief discussion with 2 clubs in the Australian A-League next week, however we cannot comment on whether that is to continue along any negotiations, or to kindly reject any offers that may be on the table"

His coaching resume, which boasts a championship with Crvena Zvezda in the Serbian JelenSuper Liga, has attracted many offers, however his working relationship with former team mate and now senior coach at Nagoya, Dragan Stojković has always managed to see the Macedonian tactician stay put in Japan.

Now Melbourne Victory FC are interested, but the question remains, is Gjurovski?

The Japanese Associated Press, citing an anonymous source, has reported that Gjurovski received "negotiable sections" of a contract proposal from the club.

An affiliate of Chunichi Sports Weekly, reported Monday night that "final details are being ironed out and, barring a last minute glitch, Bosko Gjurovski will at least be interviewed by the Melbourne Victory"

Last year Gjurovski was linked to rumors centering around the coaching vacancies at VFB Stuttgart and SV Mattersburg, but he ultimately ended up signing an extension with Nagoya.

Melbourne Victory declined to comment when contacted by editorial staff to confirm the names of any candidates.

Considering his experience in Asia, I think its a worthwhile choice.

Plus his history isnt too shabby

Wikipedia wrote:
Gjurovski commenced his coaching career at his former club Servette FC as an assistant, and remained in that position for 4 seasons, in which they won a Swiss title and finished up runner up in another 2. He left this role to take up another assistants role at his other former club Red Star Belgrade after this, and also remained in that role for 3 seasons. During this period, Red Star Belgrade won 2 league titles & 3 domestic cup titles.

In November 2002, he became the new coach of FK Rad, after steering FK Radnički Obrenovac to promotion the season earlier. He left FK Rad after only 1 season, citing differences between the club board & himself.

After a few years out of coaching, Gjurovski returned to Red Star Belgrade in March 2007 as head coach of Red Star Belgrade after Dušan Bajević walked out on the club. Đurovski did well and won the league title in his first season as senior coach 2006-07 season. However, the following 2007-08 started poorly from the getgo as the team struggled & just managed to qualify for the Champions League 2nd qualifying round with a lot of difficulties, beating Levadia in Belgrade 1:0 and losing in Talin 1:2. Gjurovski was sacked after that game by club president Dragan Stojković, and was replaced by Milorad Kosanović. Gjurovski remained in the Red Star organization, however, moving to the position of the clubs chief scout.

Just months after his sacking as head coach of red Star Belgrade, Gjurovski was targeted for the assistants role at J-League underachiever Nagoya Grampus. It was rumored after this that Gjurovski was ultimately sacked by then red star President Dragan Stojković due to the fact that he would be taking the senior coaching position at Nagoya & was determined to take Gjurovski with him as his number 2.

After a 2 year rebuild, Stojkovic & Gjurovski managed to steer Nagoya to a long awaited 2nd J-League championship.
