Who are some of you blinkered idiots kidding. I tend to agree with most of your post. If the choice of venue for the vandalism was a football ground belonging to a macedonian club and the vandals left their signature by painting a greek flag, how can the game of football escape the negative attention and reflection? Don't greeks and macedonians usually show their dislike for each other at football grounds only? where else do they do it ecxept in local football matches? Of course it will reflect negatively and badly on our game, as things like that usually do. If this is correct and greeks and macedonians in Australia only try to sort out their ethnic differences when they see each other in football games, how can this incident not reflect badly on our sport? Take away club competitions that include these clubs or just do away these clubs and european ethnic differences in Australia are a thing of the past. WTF are we doing to our sport? We're killing it by not acting on this. lol bigtime at the above On another note I was contemplating goinh to a victory match but decided it is way too dangerous to take my family there VPL is.much much safer Bring on the independe enquiry please HAL is a very dangerous place as for the altoa vandals, there is no way things are as they seem

A little more info on this...
The ground is used by two clubs. One Macedonian, another Greek. No issues exist between the two.
The club recently allied to the council for assistance in upgrade/construction costs, application was rejected.
Police have yet to accept that the offenders were in fact Greek. It is considered to be a good possibility that the Greek flag was painted on the pitch to point the finger at Greeks rather than to lay claim to the incident.
Interesting times.

More to the point - who defines which clubs are ethnic and therefore not entitled to play in the higher leagues, and which are acceptable?

If european ethnic rivalries in Australia only exist in soccer, what chance has the sport got in this country while this is allowed to go on? Can somebody tell me how we can put an end to this? One way would be to do away with the clubs that segregate football fans by attracting them according to their ethnic background. Is there another way? If not, then let's do away with these clubs for the sake of australian football.

How does this in anyway damage our game? It's like someone going to Japan wearing a t-shirt that says "bring back the bomb". It just shows how racist and fucked up the person who did the crime is.

Some people will use anything to try and attack so called "ethnic" clubs. It's attitudes like this that keep the game so segregated.
Saying that every game these clubs play is marred by violence, and ethnic tension is just as moronic as saying every Victory fan is a thug, and they punch on during and after games.

No where else is this hatred displayed by people from these backgrounds (or any traditional rivals for that matter). That is the crux of the problem for soccer. The game often isn't even the reason some (and I do only mean some) people attend matches. Clubs don't do enough to rid their support base of these morons so inevitably they get tainted with the same brush.

This would be valid if it was a majority at games making this trouble but when its only a handful from each community who most likely dont even attend games generally, its more a society issue.

To my knowledge the only VPL games that will be played behind closed doors this season will be as the result of a match official being abused - nothing to do with ethnicity, all to do with a couple of idiots and possibly an over-reaction by the FFV (ban those fans for life, but don't punish the club or the rest of the supporters).

Who are some of you blinkered idiots kidding. Yet this isn't a report on a riot at a football game, not even about a fight. It's a report about an act of vandalism. If some dickhead goes out and vandalises the pitch at the SFS next week, paints a Scottish flag on the pitch, do we kick Sydney FC out of the league?
