Get Off Sidelines and Step Up for Football
Knox Regional Football Centre manager, Chris Hain, 'this is your chance to get involved.'
With less than a week to go to nominate for the 2011 Zone Representative and Standing Committee elections, there’s still time for you to step forward and help shape the future of Victorian football.
Former Loddon-Mallee Zone Representative and Women’s Standing Committee representative Chris Hain cannot stand this year following his appointment as Knox Regional Football Centre manager, though he said his 18 months in the role was a thoroughly positive experience.
“It’s so rewarding to have the opportunity to assist the FFV board in making the best and most informed decisions about the direction of Victorian football,” said Mr Hain.
Chris laughed off the misconception that being on a committee is all long hours in stuffy meetings.
“I got the chance to meet some fantastic and dynamic people who like me, wanted to get off the sidelines and get more involved in our games future,” said Mr Hain.
Mr Hain said that the role itself is not hard or onerous. Over his 18-month tenure Chris reckons he spent approximately 20-30 hours on committee business, and half of that was out and about engaging with players and volunteers at local clubs.
“Technology means that you’re not tied to a desk or a committee meeting. You can communicate via phone and email or even use Skype,” said Mr Hain.
“It’s no good sitting on the sidelines grumbling about the problems, this is your chance to get involved and make the changes that you want to see.”
FFV CEO Mark Rendell says that everyone has opinions on the way football should be run in Victoria.
“We want people to be engaged and this is their opportunity to be involved," said Mr Rendell.
"This is a way to ensure that the football community are involved, not just for their own personal issues, but for the clubs and stakeholders in their zone. Committee members will have a large input into helping the FFV frame the next strategic plan.”
Nominations for the Zone Representatives and Standing Committees close on Tuesday 5 July 2011.
