Indigenous Football Come n' Try Day
Football Federation Victoria and the Budjeri Napan Latrobe Valley Koorie Sports Committee are holding a ‘Come N’ Try’ day for Indigenous football on Wednesday July 6th between 11am-1pm.
The event will be held in conjunction with Naidoc Week and is designed to introduce Indigenous kids to the fundamentals of football with some skill-based drills and small sided games. There will also be a friendly ‘Adults vs. Kids’ match and lunch will be provided on the day.
FFV Development Officer Eugene Lawrenz was enthusiastic about giving kids the chance to develop themselves.
"I'd love to see a big turnout. The more kids we have being active, having fun through football and learning about the values of teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship, the better," he said.
The event will also provide interested players with an opportunity to sign up and compete at the FFV State Competition later this year, where Indigenous boys and girls from aged 5-16 will compete in a series of 5-a-side matches.
"Ultimately my goal is to put together a couple of teams with a coach each, have a few training sessions and then take them along to FFV's State Competition at the Knox Regional Football Centre in October,” Lawrenz said. “We have some good talent in Gippsland and I'm sure we'd do our region proud."
