If you see the amount of strapping on his leg. Yeah I wouldn't be keen on risking it.

Something stuck out in the pregame about aloisi for me. Out of 90 odd games he coach the roar he has only won 30. So basically a win percentage of 30%. That is not a coach that will take you anywhere.

Half time today and has been out coached. I maintain it silverware or bust this year for aloisi.

Oh hell..... What a disappointment tonight.
We saw some great one two touch approach play then what happened.
One good thing out of tonight was DWH making an impact off the bench. Well done son, good effort.

How does the ref take 5 minutes to work out Reagans red card when the rest of Australia knows and Mauks red card is so quick we hardly knew it had happened and how is Goodwin innocent, yes I have a ref too!!!!!!

Did Ross Aloisi get sent ??? If he did get rid of him, this brother relationship is no good, unhealthy and embarrassing and is taking us nowhere. John will be better off without him, this is pro football John not amateur.

Good to see some mongrel in us tonight. Great effort from DWH. Should get a couple of games now that Taggart’s done a groin.
Despite the loss, that game has given me more hope than any game in the past 12 months.

If we’d had a decent right and left back we’d have won 1-0.

It’s frustrating that Aloisi tolerates poor performers for as long as he does.

I agree on your comment about the speed of Mauk's red card. It took me several watches of it to actually work out what happened. I finally spotted some frames in the highlights that showed Mauk's foot and ankle slipping up over the ball. Clearly went in studs up with one foot, got the ball and rode it up - no complaints about a red card for dangerous play - but not as bad as a full on ankle attack. We have seen yellow cards issued for that as often as red - so the hasty card bothers me a bit (regardless of me being happy with the outcome if it is applied consistently to all potentially serious injurious play).

For the 5 minutes it took to decide on a yellow for Negan (no typo - just ask Rick) I can only imagine the VAR was actually hunting any other combatants that they could tag at the same time - which in itself is not a bad thing given how many players got involved. That it ended up a yellow I find quite disturbing. We have seen straight reds for gentle face slaps so many times this particular decision reeks.

I was also bothered by the early yellow to Bowles (and good that it was carded) then later 'identical' fouls on attacking Roar players were waved off as just free kicks. One particular one from behind as maybe Ricki made a run towards the box. The lack of consistency in Gilletts decision making, and failing to stamp out aggressive and niggling fouls by both teams throughout the game contributed heavily to the flareups that followed. "Top Ref" is not judged on the same things that I find important watching a game.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

have another look ...Mauk had the ball was running sideways when the ball got away from him Goodwin was running back and tried to take it ..Mauk lunged desperately to try and keep Goodwin from getting it ...was from the side... not behind . Mauks tackle was probably reckless . Should have been second yellow ...not a red in my opinion.

Goodwin was clearly attempting to trap the ball under his foot and never made any contact with Mauk until he landed on him.

you're right, it was from the side but the tackle was dangerous and Goodwin vould have been seriously injured had he not taken evasive action

The more I see it the more I think it’s been over refereed.

Both players going in for the ball, it was a fair but hard contest with neither player asking or giving quarter.

The clincher is Mauk is the first and only player to get the ball. Goodwin at no stage has possession and he’s the one coming in from the side, and he’s the one that’s reckless (he knocked an opponent out stone cold) not the other way around.

Either both players get nothing, or a yellow, or a red.

Otherwise the ref is having a laugh - Mauk gets the ball first in a competition for the ball where both, not one, are flying in to contact

This is supposedly the best referee we have?

It wasn't a fair contest and you can't possibly punish Goodwin. He did nothing wrong, didn't fly in, stayed on his feet and made no contact with Mauk until he fell on him. Goodwin gets to the ball first and attempts to trap it under his foot. Mauk comes out of nowhere and slides in which studs raised going over the ball. Mauk's challenge is a red everyday of the week. Goodwin did nothing wrong.

The second angle shows the incident better.

I recon we might see Roar appeal that one.

I think Gillett got it wrong ... probably a good use of VAR would have been to call the ref over and ask him to look again?

Mauk had possession of the ball, how can he get sent off when he didn’t make a tackle? Goodwin made the challenge

@sub007

I’ve just watched your video post again, and again, and again.

Mauk never makes contact with Goodwin, only the ball.

Goodwin also makes contact with the ball on the opposite side, there is no actually player to player contact until the collision.

There is no foul. Roar will try and appeal it.

(And again, is the VAR actually switched on??)

“Screenshots” aren’t worth Jack when it’s all there in the video.

Mauk has the ball, is running with the ball, Goodwin comes in for the challenge, mauk connects on one side of the ball, Goodwin the other. The rest is just a matter of physics and if you’re arguing Mauk deserves a red the same argument has to apply to Goodwin.

It’s what I’d call a “homer decision” - the ref went with the crowd reaction, looked at the reds players over-reacting and made the wrong call imo.

Lol ok. It's not like Mauk lost the ball, Goodwin getting there first and about to trap the ball before receiving a studs up tackle after Mauk went over the ball or anything.

No way that will get overturned. Not in a million years.

No it doesn't. Goodwin doesn't dive in or make contact with Mauk whereas Mauk dived in from about 3 metres away and went over the ball.

“And despite Mauk getting sent off for his challenge on Craig Goodwin, Kurz defended the Brisbane Roar midfielder, labelling it as simply ‘very hard tackling’.

“I’m not sure it was a red card,” said Kurz.

even the Adelaide coach DOESNT think it’s a red card.

Enough said
