After they scored they dropped off and we had a chance to win. We are missing Matty for sure, At the moment it does look like we will be seeing WSW in the Grand Final at Suncorp ;) Edited by MrBrisbane: 8/2/2014 03:51:58 PM

The sooner Mulvey replaces him the better. He has always had a problem at the near post .But he can still pull off those reflex saves. The question we don't have an answer to is his impact on organizing defence. There are no statistics on this ,other than the overall goals conceded.Which for Roar are still lowest in the HAL. Furthermore if you are going to replace him you need somone better. You may solve a problem in one area and end up with one in another. yeah, we're not going to replace him for the sake of replacing him. And He has 2? Years remaining on his contract. So we aren't going to release him. But his form has warranted a stint on the bench.

It was against the 2nd best in the league away, with the crowd as there 12th man, Was alot of pressure and he did make a good save, just didnt look confident last night. He still scares me, and like Crimson has said i dont think Acton is ready yet.

After the last two performances against WSW you would have to say the Roar have some problems. The aggressive pressing forced so many long balls from the back.Plus the midfield struggled and were completely outplayed.

All over the shop unfortunately. I think it's time for him to take a seat. After the way Acton played earlier in the season I think he has earned another shot at it, I really couldn't fault his performances and he also made one of the best saves of the season. I don't know what's happened to Theo, the first 2 seasons with us he was a brick wall and was almost perfect. Since then he has had quite a number of massive brain snaps that have cost us goals or put the team under huge pressure. It's almost getting to the point where every single game he is making a massive mis calculation.

I agree with the Theo sentiment. He's not as sharp as he once was. A couple recent pens have come down to him (even though he was let down by his defence to an extent). He's been better than he was last year, though. Would be good to see real competition for his spot brought in. However, I thought action acton was good in the games he played. Do we all remember one very good reflex save of his that kept us in a game?
Would prefer that any new keeper has a two syllable name that is easy to chant, or for him to be willing to change his name into something more suitable for chanting.

Franjic on the left wing and Broich back in midfield is a negative tactic by Roar's standard but possibly understandable from a consolidation point of view. Battle of the midfields. Franjic won't star in that position coming straight back from injury. It does suggest Mulvey us quite happy with Petratos on the right and so he should. Lustica may still be given some game time.

I assume he'll take Fereirra's starting spot in the ongoing absence of Mackay.
Also understand Franjic is very close in starting but believe he may be on the bench at best. http://www.news.com.au/sport/football/brisbane-roar-coach-mike-mulvey-is-toying-with-playing-ivan-franjic-on-the-left-against-wanderers/story-fnk9a3dc-1226819526110This article suggests Franjic will start and Lustica on the bench. Either way, we have a top-class squad.

Our squad is unreal, Mulvey has made up this team perfectly. It helps that someone like Franjic / Ferreira and even Henrique can play multiple positions too.
Basically, I don’t think we have many worries unless we cop 8 injuries at once.
We comfortably have the best squad this league has ever seen in my eyes. Agreed. That's what I said previously as well. Further to your comments re playing in different positions, note the likes of Steff, North, Smith, Miller are virtually never played in different positions at least not like the younger boys get tossed around - Fereirra, Donachie, Franjic etc. Is this showing up how much more versatile this new generation of players are vs those from the older school?

Yep the fully fit first team lineup is as you describe. Reserves team could look like this atm: Acton Hingert - Donachie - Ferriera - Brown Clut - Lustica - Borrello Henrique - Solorzano - Ingham That is ignoring Doe who seems to have fallen off the face of the planet, and of course Lambadridis and Danning as long term injuries. Only one not in a preferred position would be Ferriera so maybe him out to right back and Hingert CB or a NYL player in. Honestly that team would give a good account of itself. This. There's not a HAL coach in the land that would start Lustica ahead of Miller. Brown is impressive going forward but in the cut and thrust of pressure matches I'd rather have the defensive experience of Steff. Donachie has a strong case to displace North who has been guilty of the odd blunder but he has proven to be an excellent last ditch defender. Other than these positions the rest of the team picks itself. Lustica has to prove himself first when he settles in. He won't get a starting spot this season unless there are injuries but he'll be certainly ahead of Fereirra or Clut. Lustica will be fighting for a spot with Miller next season as Lustica brings more flair and inventive play with greater ability to score than Miller. If Miller plays like he did last week and against MV then Miller should start despite his lack of skills but has the experience upper hand. However if Miller has played out his quota of good games then Lustica must be seriously considered.

paulc wrote:Questions should be asked of Theo as well. He's having shockers game after game compared to the high standards he set himself during the Ange years. Spot on! I'd rate him easily the worst keeper in the league. His positioning leaves a lot to be desired apart from letting in a few howlers. Fortunately for him and for the rest of the defence BTW, being that our midfield and forward line is so strong, not allowing opposition much time on the ball therefore looking good on paper judging by the paucity of goals conceded. Me thinks that young Acton did a good account of himself in those couple of games just recently.

Maybe lack of challenges to his place in the starting lineup. Before, Theo had Redmayne as a challenger for the number one spot. No disrespect to Acton, but he is/forever-will-be, a back-up keeper at best.

If im Mulvey id seriously be looking at a new keeper in the off season or working on changing Theos game a bit, Bit too eccentric at times and it can be costly.
