Why would this close the door on a Logan team? As far as I'm aware the club are leasing the facilities which means they aren't owned by the club. Therefor if a Logan team ever entered the league the Roar could just relocate and the Logan team take over the lease. The other option would be for the Logan team to set up another training base. If anything this is almost setting up a future Logan team.

I can't figure out why you have it in for McClaran so much , the kid is up there with top scores for brisbane and for the league yet you constantly bag the fuck out of him ? No wonder players lose respect for the teams fans when people post crap .

@ Jonsnow
What players have lost respect for fans?
Maccers has had an enlightening season - by now his agent should realise the folly of going public with high wage demands particularly for a young player already under pressure to repeat last seasons efforts.
The good side of Maccers he scores goals, in the main penalties and tap-ins. To be fair D'aggers could score the goals Maccers has this season (but to be fair not all of the 19 in open play from last season)
But the criticism comes in the other areas of Maccers play - while it's true if you get the ball to him near the goal there's a good chance he'll score there are other aspects that are causing the team trouble. If you compare his stats to similar strikers (Bes, Fornorolli and O'Donnovan) he touches the ball about a third as much as these guys do. That means he doesnt get involved in play as much - typically he's always running away from the ball looking for the goalscoring chance. In contrast the other strikers will drop deeper at times to pick the ball up and link in wingers, fullbacks and the 10. That for me is the criticism - he's one dimensional and if the whole team is geared to getting him the ball he needs to be scoring a lot more than he is (8 in open play is not enough) and/or he needs to be bringing more players in to the game creating chances elsewhere.
Just because he's got 13 doesn't mean he's playing well - there's so many areas he needs to improve upon such as one on one finishing (I'd always back the keeper when it's one on one, he rarely scores) and fans aren't stupid, they can see it

So you are still pissed that his agent came out and asked for more money? Yes this was a mistake on their behalf ,inhindsight Jamie will know this . Comparing Macca to Barisha is interesting as both have almost identical goals to game ratio for the Roar Macca to Fornaroli , two totally different players , I don't think I have ever seen Macca try to milk free kicks or get players sent off and looking at the quality of players that play behind Fornaroli ,makes it easy for the striker, Brisbane have had a very unsettled midfield this season which has not played balls forward or at speed to Macca. Don't even know why you harp on about O'Donovan , his greatest achievement was to have been coached by the dirtiest player in the EPL , that and the fact he has no idea regarding the offside rule.

@ Jon snow
I don't think I'm "pissed" at anyone all I'm giving is my opinion on a player and a situation, that's what this sites built for isn't it - opinion and discussion?
The comparison with Bes/Forniroli was not to contrast the style of play, the type of striker or the playing ethics employed - the assessment was made last month on the number of times each player touches the hall in a game with Maccers doing it about 33% as much as the other two so he's just not as involved in games. If you mark him out of games he's effectively awol until a tap in or penalty occurs.
It's not too hard to see Roars goalscoring problem this season is it?
And there's no obsession with O'Donovan, there aren't that many strikers coming off contract this winter in the HAL (Maccers, O'Donnovon, Cirio? Anyone else?) so fans/media will talk about available options not unavailable ones like Taggart etc

+xLudicrous statement, that's so what. And blaming it on a "closed system" ffs .... here's the thing that undoes your entire argument:- Logan can still have a team- Logan can still build a stadium - Roar having a training base there won't stop it- The Strikers already have a training base in Logan This is good news for football and somehow you've managed to find something negative. Nothing new about turning good news into something negative by bitters on this forum.

Yeah I know paulc but I thought that was a bit of a stretch. The chances of finding a site large enough within Brisbane City council areas is pretty slim to none existent so Roar were always going outside the central Brisbane (BCC) area.
And the logic that this somehow stops Logan going alone for the HAL is bizarre. Strikers are already there and now Roar which pretty much puts Logan at the centre of football in Brisbane and if anything increases their chances of elevating a local team.
But at the root of all this is a bloody good training facility for Roar and around 120-150 full and part time jobs based in Logan which I'm sure occurred to Logan Council.

I think most Roar fans are ambivalent towards McClaren. We all know his strengths, but know that there are many types of strikers out there ,who would add something different to our somewhat one-dimensional attack. Henrique when he was at Roar fulfilled a similar role to McClaren. He lacked the engine, but had more skill. If there is a lose ball in the penalty box,McClaren or Henrique would be ideal men to take advantage. If there is a ball over the top of defence ,both are ideal to make the defenders sweat. But in most case McClaren's first touch isn't good.So you need to play averages, with making enough chances so he gets on the end of one of them. In internationals that's not good enough. You get one or two chances only and you have to score.Same in the ACL. So within the confines of the HAL,and poor defences Macca can still flourish, bit beyond that ,he needs to improve a lot.

He is very one dimensional. The fact is he doesn't get the ball in the back 2/3 of the pitch. If he was better at holding up the ball and get a passing through, he would add a lot to just being a fox in the box or running off the last defender. The fact is the things he is good at he has a very low percentage of actually scoring. That is the major problem. if he his covert 50% of his chances things would be very different for the roar and most likely top of the table.

I use to pass in front of the premises from time to time and saw it grow. Looks good. It's on par with the local rugby league clubs get from councils, Just need to look next door at what that RL club has. Our national soccer club representing the whole of Brisbane and Queensland gets a facility like many local RL clubs already have. Gets me annoyed but at least it's something. We still have a long way to go with councils and government.

Agree with what most of you are saying about McClaren. Love the guy's attitude and effort but I'm not going to cry if he leaves. JA better make smarter recruitment selections as we lost players with imagination like the fish and Petratos who can make the difference in unlocking defences but never replaced their skills. I hope we don't have another season of hoof ball.

Can't seem to get a break with injuries. McKay out for 6 weeks.
But to many old players in the squad does this.
Be interesting the fallout for Ross.
I'm not sure what annoying me more Roar lack of threat in the final third or the refs this season.
I believe that the reason this year was terrible for everyone other than Sydney. Is that every team went back in quality be it finding replacement players for one that lost or players down on form from last. Only Sydney went forwards in quality.
Hopefully there is a clear out in the off season. I hope next season will be better and more competitive.

@ lolirsbigmic
I'm not concerned about our squad age just our lack of cutting edge. Maclaren is a liability, now whether that's his fault or the players behind him is debatable but again he only gets one shot away in 98 minutes and it's a tap into an open goal - that's not good enough. Then Borrello and Holman are toothless show ponies, where are the goals??

Im bringing up the age issue as we had a string of injuries. When you get older things break apart more. Holman been out for most of the season, mckay is out now. Theo was out all of last season. They are all at the age that things catch up and these injuries are more common. Also we want more players at the 27 to 32 mark not the 32+. We have really young players or really old players, no so much in that peak period.
Im surprise we didn't snap up ricky. Use him as a injury replacement. The lack of goal scorers is still the biggist issue facing the club. I really saw the ACL loss again karishima was due to lack of goal scoring than our defense. If we took some of those chances the game would have been different and i would have doubt that those defensive mistakes would happen. When you create chance after chance with no result, gets the team very frustrated and distracted.

+xKarl Dodd resigned yesterday?? Thats interesting. He does a commendable job. Anyway, I'm not sure how many saw the NPL game before hand last night. But i thought it was interesting to see how they played. They are much more true to Ange possesion base system. Very little long balls. Compared that to the senior team, where they do a fair few clearances or the FB putting a ball over the top. Which makes me trigger why when we see a youth player come into the senior squad they look so sharp. They always play 1 or 2 touch football looking for and receiving short passes. They had great movement and passing from the backline to the forwards with great triangle interchage that resulted in a goal or at least a shot. Everyone is complaining about our lack of youth talent but the roar production line seems to be poping out talent all the time. The defense in the side was a lot to be desired, but SWQT had some very good shots to score. But it was good for them to see coming from behind and winning the game be it a 4-3 scoreline.

After recently establishing a Central Brisbane Academy Preparation Centre with Olympic FC, Brisbane Roar have expanded their development networks with a new partnership with PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland club Gold Coast City FC. The partnership is another step forward in the implementation of Roar long-term academy strategy in partnering with Queensland football clubs to deliver high-quality player development programs in professional environments. It will also provide an additional pathway for young and upcoming Queensland footballers to make the journey through Brisbane Roar academy sides and into the Hyundai A-League squad. “Teaming up with Gold Coast City will provide a pathway for the talented players based in that region to progress into professional football,” Brisbane Roar Academy Director Drew Sherman said. “We've seen already there is a wealth of talented youngsters from the Gold Coast involved in our current youth teams and many have progressed through the pathway at Gold Coast City.” "Working together with the club to ensure high-quality youth development from an early age will only help to increase the opportunity available for more Queenslanders to progress into our first team, which is important to us.” The partnership is the second of its kind between Brisbane Roar and PS4 NPL QLD organisations and the club hopes to expand its academy and development programs throughout Queensland in the near future “This partnership with Gold Coast City is key to our long-term strategy for youth development," Sherman added. "Following the announcement of our relationship with Olympic FC, we mentioned that this was the first of a roll-out across Queensland. "This announcement is the first step on what is a critical plan for us as an Academy, we are the only [Hyundai] A-League club in Queensland and we must ensure talented Queenslanders are not overlooked. "We are in the process of establishing partnerships across the state which will improve the quality of football delivery regionally to ensure players have the same opportunities regardless of geographical location.” Gold Coast City FC President Andrew Purnell-Webb says the opportunity to partner with Queensland’s sole Hyundai A-League side is an exciting opportunity for the club and junior footballers on the Gold Coast. “This partnership between Palm Beach Soccer Club/Gold Coast City Football Club and Brisbane Roar is a very exciting prospect for the club on so many levels,” he said. “This partnership will open doors for kids as young as six years old to begin an elite pathway with the focus being on staying in the country. "It will also give all our kids the opportunity to have the best coaches, and the best experience being aligned with a [Hyundai] A-League club." - See more at: http://www.brisbaneroar.com.au/article/gold-coast-city-announced-as-new-academy-partner/1e1hlo5s76i441tq5db1l8l5hv#sthash.Dep1lrcS.dpufRead more at http://www.brisbaneroar.com.au/article/gold-coast-city-announced-as-new-academy-partner/1e1hlo5s76i441tq5db1l8l5hv#tb4Qv5iKyHTa6x6W.99

A question for those in the know. Thomas Broich was postulated as becoming an Aussie citizen a while back. My understanding is that nothing has happened. Any reason given. He's obviously been here more than enough time. Does he go off to Germany in the off season and is that a problem?

That seemed to be more paper talk than actually coming from Thomas himself who doesn't seem to have a priority on this. Whether he plays next season is apparently down to the state of his ankle which is degenerating month by month.

Good to see roar working with these sides. I think it is important for three factors, continuing our product line of talent, if you look around the league the top third of players the majority have been influence by the roar. then we have converting participators into supporters. Also putting post in for the geographic divide that will have to come with the eventual 2nd Brisbane side and getting first dibs on the development channel.

It's a good move, and the new TD is impressive (ex Southampton FC) as is the new physio (ex Sunderland FC) so they're expanding the football department nicely.

I don't know but I'd say any delay in expansion Roar want is mainly to do with things like this, basically let's them do a land grab - thankfully for Kingsman the FFA is now doing all the delaying.
But Celtic just created a "sister club" in Nerang Eagles giving them first dibs on their youth so not only is this a good idea it's increasingly necessary.

It's fairly simple, they are. Whether they should or not is irrelevant and subject to opinion but I'd say it's better young talent stays in Oz than goes for free to Scotland.
And it's also following a well established model in the rest of the football world where senior clubs partner with junior clubs - seems sensible for Australian clubs to follow the same model imo
It does raise a question over future transfer fees but with the Celtic model there aren't any but hopefully Roar and the local clubs agree some compensation.
