@ miron

I agree there. It may help the defence though plus his forward distribution is solid.

I’m kinda getting over Aloisi’s 4231 though, I can’t think of many games where we’ve really played well using it - so fundamentally there’s a few things wrong

Brisbane Roar training facilities may be adding to club’s injury toll

December 16, 2017 11:42am
by MARCO MONTEVERDE
Source: The Courier-Mail

BRISBANE Roar will seek expert outside advice to discover whether substandard training field surfaces are contributing to the club’s shocking injury toll.

As revealed by The Courier-Mail, teenage midfielder Joey Caletti has joined Brisbane’s casualty list, with a stress fracture in his ankle set to sideline for up to three months.

Caletti joins Eric Bautheac (hamstring), Jade North (groin), Brett Holman (calf), Luke DeVere (knee), Michael Theo (finger) and Shannon Brady (foot) on the sidelines.

Attacking weapon Nick D’Agostino is also set to meet the Roar’s date with Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night because of an ankle problem.

While that injury was due a knock D’Agostino suffered in the Roar’s 0-0 draw with Wellington Phoenix last Saturday, a host of the Roar’s other injuries are non-contact issues.

It has led to concerns being raised about the state of the Roar’s training ground at Ballymore, as well as the club’s sport science operations.

Roar coach John Aloisi is fed up with having “eight or nine” players missing each week and wants answers.

“It’s something that we have to look into,”: Aloisi said.

“We’re going to get someone to come in and look at our infrastructure and see what’s going on, because the amount of injuries is getting a little bit ridiculous.

“When you’ve got so many, and it’s something that we have to look at ourselves first, and see what we’re doing right or wrong.

“From the first year I was here, where we training somewhere different (Griffith University’s Mount Gravatt campus), the loading s very similar, so it’s definitely not the loading.”

The Roar’s nomadic existence hasn’t helped matters.

This season they have trained at Ballymore, Olympic FC’s Goodwin Park ground at Yeronga, Brisbane Grammar School’s sporting fields at Northgate, and Cbus Super Stadium at Robina.

The Roar could have no complaints about the surfaces at Northgate and Robina, but their move next year, most likely in February, to their own training base to Logan can’t come soon enough.

Aloisi said the club would seek help from “someone that understands about pitches, understands about changing of the grounds (and) understands what that can do to the body”.

“We know what we’re going to end up going to Logan. It’s going to be ours and it’s important that we start to grow as a football club and we’re doing the right things,” Aloisi said.

“But we’re not there yet and we have to make sure that we are getting an understanding of why this is happening because every week there are eight or nine players out.

“It’s not easy for anyone. I worry about the players’ welfare more so because that’s important that we look after them.”

Lack any creative spark. Plus slow movement if anything at all. Most of the time they just stand there.

Yes, look what happened when McKay put in a short burst of speed. We need to ramp up the tempo. Actually looked as if we could finish the match yesterday, whether that was because MV were sure of the points or not is the only question.

Why doesnt NFI just tell the truth, the conditioning coach walked out months ago because the football department took no notice of him.

I'm not happy about how we are playing. But at least the 2nd half had some enjoyment to it. Look like we could get something from it. When we started running with the ball was when we started to create things and get a spark with quick interplay. When they start playing possession game things go to a walking pace.

Agreed clivesundies, the facilities are no different to what they where before. The lack of fitness training is the killer. Lots of injuries especially soft tissue points to poor condition above all else. Plus getting old players and young injury prone players is a fine combination of having players out.

@ lolitsbigmic

In fairness to Clive’s Undies he did pick this when Dodd left, and what was sold internally as an “upgrade” now appears to be a shambles.

The turf at Ballymore isn’t that bad so it’s down to who is doing what and how. The season is effectively written off now and unless the new MD gets to the bottom of this shambles we risk it happening again and again.

Having players out 'for a few weeks' really hurts when we hit Christmas and play so many games in quick succession. We are likely to see several more of our young players getting game time on top of our injury replacement needs.

I found it quite amusing walking away from the game on Sunday when a few Victory cars drove past shouting out about beating us - in my head thinking 'you are gloating because your team is playing slightly less badly than ours'.

Football for the love of the game, support for the love of the team; winning games will be a bonus.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

It's the same training ground Ange and Ken Stead used, of which we were by far the best conditioned team in the league. Let's stop looking for external excuses. It all comes down to JA and his methods, in conjunction with a few sub-par sport scientists who clearly didn't load the boys right in pre-season. Andrew Clarke should be our next marquee signing...

I had hoped that the lack of conditioning early was a deliberate move so as we could get through the ACL program with flying colours. Seems I was mistaken, ah well!

No one who would know what’s going on is talking about this, they’ve obviously been told to keep their mouths shut.

As best as I can tell Karl Dodd left and wasn’t adequately replaced, the person/people brought in seem to be copping the blame and at least one has moved on.

It’s not all “their fault” as we have Moore and two Alousi’s that should be all over this plus at least one player (FBK) reported for preseason training with an injury.

What I found amazing was the base finding of the report was aired on 7 News.Who paid for the enquiry and what was uncovered?

I saw the game on the replay of the Sunday match, and the lad called Akbari looks like an interesting talent.

He's got that charisma or confidence in how he plays the game, he reminds me of a former Ajax player called Jari Litmanen

BRFC Chairmans Update (via club website):

Dear Members, Partners and Supporters,

As Chairman of Brisbane Roar FC, I would like to thank all our members, partners and supporters for their continued support and I extend my best wishes for the festive season and the year ahead.

Since my commencement as Chairman, our club has achieved many positive results including, the establishment of our Logan training facility which will be available in early February, consecutive appearances in the Hyundai A-League Finals Series, overcoming great odds to defeat Shanghai Shenhua in China and qualify for the AFC Asian Championships League Group Stage, continued Socceroos and Matildas representation, the establishment of our Brisbane Roar Academy starting in 2018 and our membership is on the rise to name a few highlights.

I would personally like to thank all our administration staff, football staff, players and volunteers for their continued dedication to the club.

In particular, I would like to thank John Aloisi for his dedication and unwavering support. Since joining Brisbane as the leader of the Club's football program, many of the achievements I've mentioned above can be directly attributed to John's vision, planning and execution.

We acknowledge that the commencement of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season hasn’t started as we had hoped. We have been challenged by many factors that have contributed to this current position, such as player injuries commencing prior and during pre-season which didn’t assist our pre-season preparation compared to previous years, however, under John’s guidance, we are confident that our season will strengthen and our results will improve both now and into future years.

Our Roar Women continue to succeed and we will press for the ultimate prize this year. My thanks to Head Coach Mel Andreatta and her dedicated staff for their leadership as our women’s program grows from strength to strength under the guidance of John. Our increased crowds at Westfield W-League matches as well as a growing interest across free to air and subscription TV viewership is the perfect platform to promote the quality of our talented women’s side.

2018 will be a giant step forward for Brisbane Roar FC.

As key stakeholders of our club, I have a great belief in our members, partners and supporters. There will always be good and challenging times however, together and united we can achieve great results.

Merry Christmas.

Roars best game of the season? Probably?

Unlucky with the VAR? Definitely, should have gone 2-0 up and should have had a penalty.

Could have don 4-0? Possibly but didn’t.

Ross taking out the bench? Disgraceful. No wonder we have a team discipline problem.

Where to now? More of the same I’m guessing - whatever’s going on behind the scenes will eventually blow over or blow up.

Ross has to go. Management needs to start thinking about how they going to get a new coach. When John goes so will Ross. There will be no one to coach the team in the short term unless they have two people lined up straight away.

Someone was saying that the players are not feeling great being coached by the Aloisi. My money that it is having the two brothers there.

Ross has to go now.
